Hackers stole $12 million from the account of Usain Bolt, the outstanding speedster of all time, with the investment firm Stocks and Security Limited on Thursday.
Usain St. Leo Bolt was born in Jamaica on August 21, 1986, in Montego Bay. In Trelawny parish, he was born to Jamaican shopkeeper parents.
Nonetheless, he began playing the field sport at a young age. Bolt initially distinguished himself as a track phenom at the world junior championships in 2002. In front of 36,000 spectators at Jamaica’s National Stadium in Kingston, Bolt, who was 15 years old at the time, became the youngest male world junior champion in any event by winning the 200 metres. At age 16, Bolt broke the junior (under 19) 200-metre world record with a time of 20.13 seconds. At age 17, he ran the event in 19.93 seconds, becoming the first teenager to break 20 seconds in the event. However, a hamstring injury prevented him from advancing past the 200-metre heats at the 2004 Olympics in Athens, and he finished last in the 2005 global track-and-field championships final.
Bolt is a deserving Olympic sprinting winner for Jamaica.
Bolt, who measured 6 feet 5 inches (1.96 metres) in height, broke the common belief that exceptionally tall sprinters are at a disadvantage as quick starts. He won a silver medal in the 200 metres in the 2007 world championships, demonstrating a renewed commitment to his preparation. He also convinced his coach to allow him compete in the 100 metres, and in his first professional race at the distance he ran 10.03 seconds. On May 3, 2008, he improved his best time to 9.76 seconds, then the second-fastest time in the world. Four weeks later, in New York City, Bolt shattered the world mark by racing 9.72 seconds to beat world champion Tyson Gay and set a new world record.
As a sprinting superstar, Usain Bolt won several honours and earned a great deal of money.
Some parents have even used his name to signify the desired pace for their children’s errands.
Consequently, he was famous not just among sports enthusiasts but also among parents and children.
Unfortunately, the celebrity lost up to $12 million from his account with an investment firm, stocks, and insufficient security due to hackers.
According to the Associated Press, Mr. Bolt’s account with the corporation was established as a pension for his parents and himself.
Additionally, Linton P. Gordon, his attorney, said over the phone with Fortune Magazine that they are prepared to launch a lawsuit if it would bring back the missing funds from his account.
The attorney also said that the compromised account was part of Bolt’s retirement plan and life savings.
In his words,
“It’s distressing news for anyone, and certainly in the case of Mr Bolt, who established this account as part of his private pension,”
“We will be going to court with the matter” if the company does not return the funds,”
“It is a grave disappointment, and we are hoping that the matter will be resolved in a way that Mr Bolt will recover his money and be able to live in peace,”
In their defence, Stocks and Securities Ltd said that their former employee was responsible for the fraudulent activities and that law enforcement has already been notified.
In addition, they said that they had taken stringent measures to protect consumer assets.
However, Jamaica’s Finance Minister Nigel Clarke said that SSL had committed larming and vile fraud and vowed to bring all criminals to account.
In addition, the Jamaica Constabulary Force said that it is investigating the alleged fraudulent operations at SSL that are reported to have impacted the accounts of Mr. Usain Bolt and other persons.
In conclusion, the Jamaican teams are making commitments and taking efforts to ensure the situation is resolved and the lost funds are recovered and refunded.
Is it realistic to recover $12 million from the fraudsters?
Is it plausible that Stock and Securities Ltd. is liable for this fraud?
