Lagos has been a place popular for its overwhelming human population, and certain measures have been put in place by the recent government to curb this traffic, starting from the Tinubu’s administration, the recent development was launching a State-owned rail transit called the Blue Line, It was commissioned to start sometime in the beginning of the year 2023, But the first phase has been completed

The Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu recently joined fellow Lagosians and state officials in celebrating the opening of the 13-kilometer Marina-Mile 2 Lagos Blue Rail Line.
Earlier at an interactive session with newsmen, Sanwo-Olu urged residents to purchase the Cowry card to make use of the facility, while also warning against pedestrian crossing the Rail track, which he said is electrically powered.
The Governor thanked President Bola Tinubu for putting in place the transportation master plan in the State, which included the rail, waterways, and road infrastructure to curb the excess traffic that always occurred in the commercial city, but has decided to take a step further by inculcating the blue line rail.

The Blue Line project is a 27-kilometre rail route designed to run from Okokomaiko eastwards to Mile 2 and then proceed to Marina via Ijora.
The five stations have been completed, with 13km of the rail tracks laid in the first phase. Phase 1 of the Blue Line is 13km long with five stations: Marina-National Theatre- Orile-Suru-Alaba-Mile 2, while Phase 2 will extend the line to 27km.
The state governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Mudashiru Obasa, speaker of the House of Assembly; and members of the state executive council, among other prominent persons, went on a ride with the train, from the National Theatre Station, Iganmu, to Marina, on Lagos Island, signaling the readiness of the 27km intra-city rail system.

The 13-kilometer Mile 2 to Marina Lagos Blue Rail Line is definitely a game changer for transportation within the commercial nerve center of the nation, Lagos.
For residents of Mile 2, Festac, and Amuwo-Odofin environs, it’s a new way of commuting between the Ojo area of Lagos and the ever-busy Marina/CMS center of business activities.

The train ride also takes passengers high up above the National Theater in Iganmu and above the Apongbon end of the Third Mainland Bridge, allowing passengers rare viewing access to sights that will ordinarily be visible only when onboard a plane descending into an airport.

Top of the low points onboard the Lagos Blue Line is the overcrowded nature of most of its carriages. With a 50 percent slash of transportation fares on all state-controlled modes of transport, the Lagos Blue Line is being besieged by more passengers because the Mile 2 to Marina trip which normally should be N700, is being charged at N350.

The location of the Marina Terminal of the Lagos Blue Line is a little bit of a distance from the CMS bus stop when passengers disembark or want to board the trains, they have to walk up to 20 minutes to or from the CMS/Marina bus stop before getting to the Blue Rail Terminal.

The electricity-powered rail system, unified payment system (Cowry Card), World standard cars that are automated, fitted with audio and visual communication systems and speedometer to deter speeds above 80km/HR are examples of the integration of technology into the project aimed towards making Lagos a smart city.
The Blue Line is a public infrastructure that will positively transform the lives of Lagosians. It is cheering to note that the passenger operation and maintenance of the train system will be concessioned to a capable operator to ensure its sustainability.
Managed by the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), the 27-kilometer railroad line is one of the six rail lines and one monorail in the Lagos Strategic Transport Masterplan (STMP) to cater to public transport demand up till 2032. The master plan has six rail lines and one monorail, 14 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors, over 20 water routes, and a number of major new roads.
This is definitely good news for people who live on the mainland but work on the island, It is also a big step to achieving Lagos becoming a sustainable city
