I remember having a really bad day recently. I mean like, really awful.
It was one of those days when nothing was just going as planned. It was the weekend and I wanted to sleep in for a while.

At around 6 am, I woke up to my roommate crying. Her temperature was really high. We had to rush to the clinic. On our way there, she started vomiting. I was so confused as I was still sleepy.

I let her finish and then I cleaned her up. She was still crying.
On getting to the clinic, it was not open yet. I wondered why the clinic wasn’t open by 6:30 am. I called the Nurse and she said to give her an extra 30 minutes.

Still feeling sleepy, I had to reassure my friend.
I promised that she would feel better soon.

After a while, the nurse arrived and opened up the clinic.
She took note of how my friend was feeling.
She started the treatment by placing her on a drip and said I should go get her something to eat.

On my way home, I got a call that my sister had just been rushed to the hospital for an emergency operation. They said they needed an extra 50,000 naira to complete the deposit so the doctor could start operating.

I froze. I didn’t know what to think or do.

I tried calling my mom but she wasn’t reachable.

I then called my sis to check if she would pick up.
Luckily, she picked up and she sounded fine. I asked if she was okay and she said that she was well.

I didn’t tell her about the call I just got, we talked for some time and hung up.

It was probably fraudsters that called me.

I reached home and prepared food for my friend…took it back to the clinic and tried feeding her.
She ate a little and continued with her treatments.

We stayed in the clinic till midday, then decided on going home because she was feeling better.
She was told to come back the next day to continue her treatment.

We didn’t have any money on us because of the rush in the morning, so we had to walk home.
As we set out, another nurse was coming in for her afternoon shift.
She asked what happened and I told her.
She offered to drop us home and we agreed.

We got home safely and thanked her.

That act of kindness the nurse showed us that afternoon, made the whole day better for us. I was happy that my recovering friend didn’t get to walk home under the hot sun.
We were both thankful.

Whenever we passed the route of the clinic, we always popped in to say hi.
We became friends with the nurse.
