REVIEW OF THE MOVIE “HIS ONLY SON”
His Only Son is a 2023 American biblical drama film produced, edited, written and directed by David Helling. It is based on the account from Genesis 22 in the Old Testament when God tells Abraham to sacrifice his son, Isaac, on the mountain of Moriah. The film stars Nicolas Mouawad as Abraham, Sara Seyed as Sarah, and Edaan Moskowitz as Isaac, with Ottavio Taddei, Nicolai Perez, Daniel da Silva in supporting roles It was released in the United States on March 31, 2023.
I stumbled upon this movie when I was searching for a beautiful movie to ease the stress of the week, when I saw that it was about Abraham, I quickly downloaded it.
The life of Abraham was summarised in few chapters in the Bible, but this movie gave us a snippet of a few verses, when God called Abraham to sacrifice his only son.
There are alot of questions that comes with the life of Abraham, how was Abraham so quick to believe God when he called him out of the land of Ur and promised him blessings, was there doubts in the heart of Terah before he died at Haran?
How could Abraham continue believing in God that he would be the father of nations when he lived in tents and never had a child for over 20 years
I know people who ask God for a request and if God doesn’t answer in a week, they are quick to dismiss God as being slow.
Even after God gave Isaac to Abraham, He still had to test him to sacrifice his beloved son, no reason, no further discussion, yet Abraham believed God.
While I was seeing the movie, the Holy spirit showed me that our level of sacrifice is dependent on how we value what we sacrificing for and who we are sacrificing to.
Could it be that Sarah gave up on becoming the mother of nations and that was why she gave Hagar to Abraham after all, we learnt that she laughed when she was told she would give birth the following year.
What was Abraham planning to tell his wife Sarah after he must have sacrificed Isaac, that the Lord demanded Isaac as a sacrifice? Knowing she could have died from the pain.
Did Isaac obidiently accept to be the sacrifice or was he coerced and forcefully tied up.
God promised Abraham that through his seed, all nations of the world would be blessed, do you know that seed?
These and many more are the questions around the story of Abraham and the movie did its best to answer much of them.
This is a movie I would recommend to anyone whose faith seems to be staggering or shaking. Look into Abraham whom God called and blessed.
