In a surprising turn of events, the Miss Universe Organization has officially withdrawn the third runner-up title previously awarded to “Suchata Opal Chuangsri” of Thailand during the Miss Universe 2024 competition held in Mexico.
The decision, announced via a statement on the organization’s official website on April 22, stems from a reported breach of contract by the national organizers in Thailand.
According to the statement, TPN Global; the franchise holder for Miss Universe Thailand, violated internal protocols by allowing Opal to participate in another international pageant before the end of her reign.
This action directly contradicted the commitments laid out by the Miss Universe Organization and its National Directors.
“We have discovered that TPN Global did not comply with the protocols set by the National Directors (ND) by sending a Miss Universe Queen to participate in another pageant before completing her reign,”
the statement read.
“We deeply regret any incidents where these actions have violated our internal protocols and expectations.”
Although the organization refrained from directly naming Opal Chuangsri in the statement, she was the third runner-up at last year’s pageant and the only representative from Thailand among the top finalists.
Opal, 24, gained international admiration for her elegance and poise during the competition, and her fans have taken to social media to express both support and disappointment following the announcement. Neither Opal nor TPN Global has released an official statement as of the time of this publication.
The Miss Universe Organization reiterated its position on the responsibilities tied to the crown, stating;
“The title is not only an honor but also a responsibility that requires dedication and respect for the commitments agreed upon.”
This incident raises broader concerns about the increasing pressure placed on beauty queens by competing interests from local pageant franchises and the international community.
In a world where ambition often collides with regulation, how do we balance the pursuit of opportunity with the integrity of the roles we are entrusted with?
