Nigerian Afrobeat sensation Spyro has opened up about the unexpected challenges he faced after collaborating with music Stars – Davido and Mayorkun on the 2018 remix of his song “Funke.” Despite the track’s initial success, Spyro revealed in a recent interview with HipTV that the collaboration did not yield the career boost he had anticipated.
“I had a song back then, that I had Davido and Mayorkun on it. I actually thought that my life was about to change,” Spyro recounted.
“The song came out big, and I went back down all of a sudden.”
He further expressed his disappointment over losing contact with the artists post-release, stating,
“I sat down and thought about it because how do I go from working with Davido, vibing with Mayorkun and all those guys, and all of a sudden, they no longer even pick your calls anymore.”
Born Oludipe Oluwasanmi David on October 1, 1990, in Lagos State, Nigeria, Spyro began his musical journey singing in a church choir. He pursued his education at New Mainland Children School and Model College, Meiran, before graduating from the University of Ibadan. Influenced by artists like Usher and Joe, Spyro embarked on his professional music career in 2017. He gained widespread recognition with his 2022 hit single “Who Is Your Guy,” which topped charts across several African countries. The remix featuring Tiwa Savage further cemented his status in the Afrobeat scene, earning accolades such as “Best Collaboration” at the 2023 Headies Awards.
