This is the ability to make yourself do things that should be done through the right process and in the right manner. If something is worth doing, I will commit myself to carrying it through.

I’ve seen people discipline themselves not to take loans or take from the company’s account.

What is the priority of your business? Profit? Customer’s satisfaction? Meeting a specific need?

When you make a commitment towards a goal, you have to discipline yourself to achieve it, if you want to create a reputation and be seen as reliable.

Let your 10am be your 10am. As a tailor, don’t give deadlines you know you can’t meet up with. (I’ll discuss this more in the epistle on Expertise)

Are there rules and disciplinary actions for your company staff? There are businesses that enforce certain disciplinary measures on erring staff. For instance, when an employee is late for work at least thrice, a certain percentage of their salary is deducted.

Some tertiary institutions in Nigeria are meticulous about their students’ attendance. If it is not up to 75%, the student’s marks are deducted, even if they’re super intelligent and certified bookworms.

Most businesses are so undisciplined that even employees come late to meetings organized in the office building, probably because they are emulating their employers.

If you want something really bad, you’ll find a way. If not, you will find an excuse.

The Internet is the new addiction and if you’re not careful, your benefits from it will be drowned by the numerous vices it encourages.

Ways to remain Disciplined
1. Set a priority/Target/Goal: I want to do this and that; set a target to be that which you covet.

2. Draw out a plan to achieve that target:
To be the best graduating student, you need good grades so how do you get good grades? Reading, doing assignments, taking tests, attend lectures, etc

You want to be the Manager of the month? What steps do you need to achieve this?
Get a good team, be accountable, be punctual, be honest, make good sales, dress smart

3. Stay within the boundaries of achieving this: Be consistent. You might fail and feel guilty but it’s a good thing. Rome wasn’t built in a day. It takes a lot of practice to be perfect. It is like one who wants to fall asleep. You make a conscious step to lay on your bed and shut your eyes. You may blink more than once, turn side to side and battle with it but before you know it, you’re asleep.

Even Christ learnt obedience by the things he suffered, he was disciplined enough to go through a process to become something.

Stay disciplined.
