Politics Is Not My Calling Not ₦1 Billion Can Make Me Join Them, Says the Presiding Bishop Oyedepo

The General Overseer of Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has declared that he has no interest in partisan politics, stating that no amount of money can persuade him to participate.

Speaking during a recent church gathering, the cleric said, “Politics is not my calling. Not ₦1 billion can make me join them.” Bishop Oyedepo explained that his refusal to venture into politics is based on his conviction that God has assigned him to spiritual leadership rather than political office, adding that compromising this mandate would amount to a deviation from his divine purpose.

What about the overseer

Bishop Oyedepo is the founder and presiding bishop of Living Faith Church Worldwide, popularly known as Winners’ Chapel. He is also the chancellor of Covenant University, Ota, and Landmark University, Omu-Aran

Over the years, he has emerged as one of the most influential Christian leaders in Africa, with a global ministry that focuses on faith, leadership development, and moral transformation. Despite frequent calls by supporters for him to play an active role in politics, he has consistently maintained a clear separation between his pastoral calling and partisan governance.

People suggestions

The statement has generated widespread reactions across religious and social circles. Many of his followers have praised his stance, describing it as “a strong display of discipline and faithfulness to divine calling.” Some commentators noted that his position reinforces the importance of leaders remaining focused on their core responsibilities.

Others, however, argued that influential religious figures like Bishop Oyedepo could play a significant role in shaping national politics if they chose to participate. The remarks have continued to fuel debate on the involvement of religious leaders in political affairs.

Overall, Bishop David Oyedepo’s declaration reinforces his long-held belief that leadership begins with understanding one’s divine assignment. By insisting that no financial incentive can draw him into politics, he has once again drawn a clear line between spiritual stewardship and political ambition, leaving the public to reflect on the importance of purpose, conviction, and discipline in leadership.
