As you may be aware from
news reports a full CUPE strike may commence on Monday October 7th if an
agreement is not reached during collective bargaining with the province
this weekend. TCDSB does not control the decisions regarding the strike
or its remedy as negotiations rest centrally at the provincial level.
This strike action affects all schools in the Province of Ontario. This
strike means CUPE members will not report to work. CUPE represents many
valuable support staff working with our school communities including
Education Assistants, Student Supervisors, Caretakers and Maintenance
staff, School Secretaries, Child and Youth Workers, International
Language Instructors, Adult English as a Second Language Instructors.
To ensure the health and safety of our students and staff, a decision
has been made to close all TCDSB schools starting October 7th if there
is strike action by CUPE.
With schools being closed, please note that all permits are cancelled;
all night school and Saturday classes are cancelled; and all special
events and excursions are also cancelled for the duration of the strike.
During the full strike action when schools are closed to students,
third-party child care operators located in TCDSB schools will be
permitted to remain open. However, operating hours have been adjusted to
8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. It’s important to note that the decision to open or
close will be made by individual child care operators. Please contact
your child care operator directly to confirm details.
Parents with school-aged children are encouraged to make alternate arrangements for their families.

We know this time will be difficult for our families and we pray that a negotiated settlement can be reached this weekend.
