Many struggle to keep the New Year’s resolution they set out for themselves. Well, it happens but in the new year, things can really change if we set the right goals.
Year in year out, it almost seems like resolutions are just meant to be broken. Resolutions are good, productive intentions for the new year. We decide to make positive changes, like adopting a healthy lifestyle and doing something much more praiseworthy. It should never end mid- year or the first two months.

Often, what we don’t realize is that the problem isn’t that we aren’t capable of sticking to our resolutions—it’s that we need to do a better job making resolutions that are actionable and achievable. Otherwise, it’s almost like setting yourself up to fall short.

“Change is hard. We are creatures of habit,” June Kloubec, Ph.D., a professor in the department of nutrition and exercise science at Bastyr University, tells SELF. “Unless you are very motivated, have good social support, and have the right environment, it is difficult to make lasting behavior changes.” Experts like Kloubec, who work with people to get past barriers and make lasting changes, know that the kinds of things that can hold people back from reaching their goals may crop up before they’ve even attempted to change a thing.

It is advisable to make resolutions you can easily stick to and specific ones to make your goals achievable. A lot of folks make resolutions out of excitement and they’re locked up in the present emotions without being scientific or detailed about getting things done. Many at times, they realize sacrifices would have to be made which they never imagined or bargained for.

Setting a realistic goal is key and understanding the best path to getting things done. If you set unrealistic goals, you might struggle and give up before its February. Be real and truthful to yourself and never use others’ successes to determine what you intend to do. The sky is wide enough for the birds to fly. Fly in your natural state this new year and you’ll be on a roller coaster.
