Additionally, the governor has given the green light for the dissolution of the Sole Administrators of the 27 Local Government Areas in the State, effective immediately.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has made an announcement regarding the dissolution of the expanded executive council, which includes Commissioners, Special Advisers, and Senior Special Assistants. The dissolution will take effect on January 16, 2024. In addition, the Sole Administrators of the 27 Local Government Areas in the State have been dissolved with immediate effect.
Governor Uzodimma expressed his appreciation to all his political appointees for their support during the past four years, particularly for their efforts in securing a decisive victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the Imo State governorship election on November 11, 2023.
He thanked them for their unwavering support through the challenges faced during his first term in office and for their hard work in ensuring the overwhelming success of the APC in the governorship election. Governor Uzodimma credited their support, loyalty, and unity for his victory in all 27 local government areas of Imo State.
In recognizing the collective and individual invaluable contributions made by his appointees to the stability and efficiency of his administration despite the challenges posed by Covid-19 and politically motivated insecurity, the governor emphasized the need for fresh persons, ideas, and enthusiasm in the new term. He assured that both those directly involved in the new administration or tangentially involved will have cause to be proud of being part of his government.
“I want to remind you that whether you will be directly involved in the new dispensation or tangentially involved, wherever you are, you will be proud to have been part of his government,” he said
Moreover, he earnestly appealed to them to understand his limitations as a human and pledged to strive harder in the coming term to fulfill their expectations.
Additionally, the governor urged all former members of the dissolved executive council to understand that their services will still be required, given their association with the APC family and government.
During the valedictory session, Governor Uzodimma expressed his concern about certain political appointees whose actions had negative impacts on the government’s reputation and expressed disappointment in the individual who granted them the opportunity to serve the public, emphasizing the responsibility that comes with these roles.
In a recent announcement, the emphasis was placed on political appointees upholding integrity and refraining from engaging in corrupt practices, misappropriation of public assets/funds, and other unethical behaviors.
It was made clear that the new administration will not tolerate members whose beliefs do not align with the vision for a better Imo State for all.
Following the dissolution, former Commissioners are instructed to hand over the affairs of their Ministries, including vehicles and government property, to the respective Permanent Secretaries.
Similarly, Special Advisers, Senior Special Assistants, and other strategic appointees are to hand over government property they possess to the Office of The Chief of Staff to the Governor.
Furthermore, the Governor has approved the immediate removal of the SOLADS from office, effective from January 16, 2024. This action is to pave the way for the immediate conduct of Local Government elections by the Imo State Independent Electoral Commission (ISIEC) and to bring in elected Chairmen and Councilors into the 27 LGAs of the State.
The former SOLADS have been directed to promptly hand over the Councils’ affairs to the respective Directors of Administration and General Services (DAGS) in their areas.
Governor Uzodimma also acknowledged the dedication and contributions of the former Sole Administrators, thanking them for their service to Imo State. He wished them success in their future endeavors and expressed optimism for the positive changes to come as the state moves forward with new leadership.
In summary, the recent announcements underline the importance of ethical conduct, transparency, and a new direction for the betterment of Imo State.
