The UK makes strict conditions to limit foreign immigrants looking to relocate to the United Kingdom.

The foundation of these new Visa rules came as a result of the reports noting the annual net
migration to the UK hit 745,000 last year and has since maintained high levels according to the data shown from last month.

As a result, to restrict or limit the high level of immigrants to the country, the government introduced measures to facilitate this purpose.

Thus, creating the new 5 points aimed at reducing immigration to the country.

James Cleverly, the UK home secretary brought these measures to notice on Monday 4th of December 2023 when he made these terms official when he spoke to the lawmakers.

Firstly, Interior Minister James Cleverly said the government would raise the minimum salary threshold of talented foreign workers from 26,200 pounds ($33,000) to 38,700 pounds ($48,800) and reform the list of jobs that require exemptions due to shortages.

Also, to end the abuse of the “health and care visa” he mentioned that the government will restrict rules on whether workers can bring their family dependant ( A dependant is defined by the government as a husband or wife, civil partner or unmarried partner and children under the age of 28) or not.

More so, care firms who are in the business of sponsorship for visa applications will henceforth be regulated by the Care Quality Commission.

Importantly, the UK government wants to remove the “Price shortage labour from overseas” by reforming the way people in short-staffed sectors can apply to come to the UK, this involves removing the 20% discount applied to the minimum salary for people looking for a visa for shortage occupations.

All of this, James Cleverly mentioned, will take effect from next spring.

This information has riled up most foreign immigrants, amongst them are some Nigerians who believe the UK placed such strict rules on visas because fellow Nigerians create YouTube channels to discuss easy ways to ” japa” from Nigeria to other countries.
