There is an adage that says that “youths are the leaders of tomorrow” but are youths truly the leaders of tomorrow, because one can know the leaders of tomorrow by the things they do today, one doesn’t get to the palace behaving like a beggar, some years ago, some hebrew boys were taken and trained in a manner that was expected of royalties so that they could be able to serve kings.

The youths of the United Arab Emirates decided that they wanted to become the leaders of AI and trained some of their youths in different countries just so that they could be able to become a leading voice in artificial intelligence in 2030, they weren’t just thoughtful about the idea, they took conscious steps and actions as well.

Looking at a country like Africa, a country blessed with many natural resources, and a population that when fully utilized could be the beauty of Africa itself but due to certain wrong laws and regulations, these youths and natural resources are not maximized. So I’ll be discussing on certain steps that would take Africa from where it is to where it deserves to be.

Firstly, we have to sensitize our youths, most african youths are sadly after their belly, they always look for greener pastures not knowing that the pastures are green because someone took his or her time to water them, we need to sensitize them that ‘charity begins at home’ and whatever that is worth doing is what doing well. We need to be patriotic about our country.

Most Christian worship Christ not knowing that Christ left a greener pasture (Heaven) to come water an infertile soil (earth) that there was no guarantee that it would yield fruits but he decided to take that leap of faith and now look at what that little faith is still doing, most youths have lost faith in their country and Africa, there has to be enough sensitization on hope and how most of these countries became what they are today, we all talk about the development of Singapore and Dubai, it wasn’t done in a day but sometimes when we think that nothing good can come out of Nazareth, that is when faith shows up.

Secondly, empowerment first starts with education on the right knowledge, you see a man is only a replication of his default mindset, the reason one can understand french and English and another cannot is because one has trained their mind to be able to comprehend the language easily, we should enlighten the youths on how the world is turning digital, they should learn digital skills, digital currencies and how to trade them, how to create digital products, learn how to market products online especially in a country in Africa that has one of the largest markets in the world, but can’t seem to be able to get her products to the global audience who needs it.

Lastly, I think Africa youths should be given the platform and tools, one of the few business men that I really admire is Tony Elumelu, who has his foundation fund intelligent entrepreneurs who have the right ideas but little or no capital to execute them, most countries are aware that the youths of their nation is the power wheel behind their innovation and renovation. So after empowering their youths, they create platforms to empower them with influence to be seen and be appreciated by the world, tv programs like Shark tanks, Dragon’s den should be emulated here in Africa, an average african youth should be taught how to pitch his skills, product and himself to potential angel investors or any influential persons at all. There should be communities that should be encouraged to help youths connect with themselves as they seek to make this happen. I think Africa would make a great continent, we might be called the dark continent but we have the potential to be the Light of the world.
