The breaking news of the death of Humphrey Anumudu, a Labour Party Governorship aspirant in the approaching governorship primary holding in Imo State brings a shock, the reality that the death might not be of a natural cause is another theory that incites fear, our condolences to the family of the deceased.
Humphrey Anumudu was reported dead in his own house in Lagos State at 5:30pm (time reported from a close friend of the deceased) after he has returned from a meeting he had attended, that held at the Labour Party National head quarters in Abuja on Friday 24th March, 2023.
The late politician held from Mberi Ancient kingdom in Mbaitoli Local Government Area.
Humphrey Anumudu was a well accomplished multi-billionaire business man and a politician with great influence and reputation, the Chief executive officer (CEO) of Globe Motors, he has so far contributed to the growth and development of various industries in Nigeria. The hard work and effort he put in have not gone unnoticed.
Reports from family sources describes the death of Humphrey Anumudu as a “Spiritual attack”, something relating to sacred rituals conducted in a native shrine to bring the death of an individual.
As investigation on his death goes on, hopefully an autopsy will be carried out to determine the cause of his death.
It is worthy of note that the late politician Humphrey Anumudu had already purchased the labour party’s governorship form for the November 11, 2023 governorship contest with a sum of N25,000,000 (i.e 25million naira), making his interest and decision to contest for the governorship seat of the state clear to the public and press.
Humphrey Anumudu without contradictions has been confirmed to have an enormous interest in political matters, it is not the first time he has taking a stand to contest for a political office.
He has been contesting for the number one seat of the state since 1998. He was announced to be the true winner in the governorship primary of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the state in 1998, before he handed over his victory to Achike Udenwa who went on to govern the state from 1999-2007.
In 2019, Humphrey Anumudu was a top Labour Party governorship candidate.
Some would say though, chasing the governor’s seat for more than 12years, a position that one can only occupy for 8 years, is an egoistical ambition especially for a multi-billionaire.
But, here’s what they did not know about the late politician, chief Humphrey Anumudu did not venture into politics because he was an ambitious individual.
Humphrey Anumudu ventured into politics for the sake of the people of Imo state considering their condition after the military administration, that was why he entered politics in 1998.
His dream was to see that every individual in Imo state is entitled to a good standard of living, that the infrastructure system can make Imo state as beautiful as every other beautiful states in the world.
Even after winning the governorship primary of the People’s Democratic Party, chief Humphrey gave up his victory to Achike Udenwa with the expectations that he would fulfil his dream of making Imo state better, but Achike Udenwa administration did not meet the expectation of the people and chief Humphrey Anumudu.
Chief Humphrey Anumudu decided that if you want something done right do it yourself. What informed his interest to participate in politics, again drove him and he stood for the governorship election under ANPP in 2003.
He was said to have won the 2003 governorship election but people in power allegedly rigged it.
Chief Humphrey Anumudu has been featuring in the struggle since 1998 and haven’t given up on the hope that imo state can be made and developed like other beautiful cities in the world.
It’s unfortunate that he did not live to meet that expectation or even see his dream come through for the people of Imo State, but in his own power and ability he has been able to lead and establish many successful industries today.
One of the most satisfying feeling is the feeling of making progress, at some point Chief Humphrey Anumudu was not only known for his high level of political participation, in 2017 he was named one of the 100 most influential Nigerians in the area of business by Business Day, a leading business newspaper in Nigeria.
