Below are the ways that we can get over boredom when we notice the signs of stress, burnout, or boredom at work.

1.Analyse Data
Most times we are bored because it seems as though we have a lot on our plate when truly we just need to organize ourselves, one will find out that when rumpled clothes are put into a bag, it doesn’t accommodate as much as it would when properly folded and ironed when data is organized, emails are arranged into columns, books, and data are appropriately labeled, receipts and payment slips are accurately kept, and the office is kept in shipshape.

2. Assist a fellow team member or colleague
When it seems like we don’t have much to do and we are getting bored, pay a visit to a colleague and help them clear their desk and tasks, it might also give you an idea of how better to organize your workspace, some people get their creative juice running when they step out of their space and see things from another perspective, which is what assisting a colleague achieves, you could also see what your strength is when you help people to achieve their tasks effortlessly.

3. Brainstorming

Brainstorming is a method of generating ideas and sharing knowledge to solve a particular commercial or technical problem, in which participants are encouraged to think without interruption. It is also “the mulling over of ideas by one or more individuals in an attempt to devise or find a solution to a problem”

We get bored when we try to get things done at work and we are met with obstacles or roadblocks after many trials, we haven’t been able to figure out what is the best solution to overcome that challenge, we can brainstorm with some colleagues or alone. You can also research new tools that you can have and apply to make your work more effective, like Chat GPT, Bard, etc

4. Create Work Flows

Workflow is defined as a sequence of tasks that processes a set of data through a specific path from initiation to completion. Workflows are the paths that describe how something goes from being undone to done, or raw to processed.

Every prioritized work that you do should be documented so that it could be easy to systemize and delegate to someone who might not know how to go about it, then you can focus on the things that cannot be delegated, a workflow can also be how you intend to achieve your daily tasks so that your weekly goals or monthly goals can be achieved.

When the team under your supervision is aware and sensitized enough about the workflow, it becomes easier to achieve the goals and tasks because everyone can see the task that is assigned to them, most project managers make use of workflows to achieve and carry out their projects

Workflows only describe the sequence of tasks. A process is a broader term that also encompasses the data, forms, reports, and notifications required to get an item from start to finish in a structured environment.
And when there is a new or better procedure that can enhance the process, the workflow is updated to accommodate the change.

5. Take a Break
Sometimes when you are bored, you just need a break, most organizations understand the importance of breaks, they could have an hour break in between the day or a month’s leave where you are free to take your mind off work and strategize, energize and revitalize yourself for the work.

It could be as little as having music play in the background of your work not necessarily loud music but one can help calm the nerves and atmosphere both for the customers and employees.

You could also take a walk around the workplace to clear your head or go outside for a breath of fresh air.

When all these steps have been taken, say goodbye to boredom at work and say welcome to productivity, which of these steps would you embark on today
