Men need to wake up and do better.. If you have no intention to be in that child’s life, especially the male child, then zip up or use a condom.. We should all be getting really concerned with the high increase in the single mother or “Baby Mama” syndrome…
Yes, I am quite aware that death of the father can also be a causative factor in some cases, but I highly doubt if it accounts for up to 10% of the reasons why absentee fathers are on the rise and women are left to raise their child(ren) alone.. Ladies need to stop getting recklessly into bed with unreliable, unreasonable, irresponsible boys with very little plan for the future, except with catch phrases like “When I blow, I will…”
Some mothers are also very quick to walk away or do everything to prevent the father from being a part of the life of his child(ren), for their personal selfish reasons, not considering the need of the child or prioritizing it below their petty issues with the father, so they can wear their “Single mother tags” like a badge of honour..
A friend once told me that the increase in the single mother syndrome is the higest reason for self contained apartments becoming very popular with house owners in Nigeria.. I cannot agree with this assertion as a statistical fact, but it’s definitely something to wonder about, as 90% of single mothers are the occupants of self contained apartments..
It’s a fact that there are single mothers out there who are decent, disciplined and doing excellent jobs in raising their children, in spite of the limited ability and resources they are equipped with, but there are a crop of several others in the majority, under performing or outrightly failing woefully, especially with the male child.
At this juncture, i will particularly be laying emphasis on the male child. It has been psychologically established that a child, particularly a boy needs the input of a father in his life and upbringing. He needs a father figure, a male role model and mentor to help shape his life and future on this very complicated journey towards manhood and more often than not, the biological father is usually the best candidate for the job, for obvious reasons.
Some single mothers don’t know or they have chosen not to know or do any better, some due to the fact that they are too young or too immature to be mothers. A pathetic case of “Babies having Babies”.
Some women treat or raise their male children in such feminine manner, since being feminine is the only thing they know. Some still go nude or almost nude before their sons who are over 5-6 years old and permit their female friends, siblings or room mates to do the same. Some have inappropriate conversations with other female friends or men in the presence of their children, not aware that the child is consciously or unconsciously learning before his time.
In trying to show some form of affection or prove to other people that they have a close relationship with their sons, some grope and kiss on them in a very inappropriate manner, even sometimes on social media.. Some still expose their children to multiple men coming or sleeping over at their homes.. Some involve or attempt to bring their children closer to men they just met, either through physical contact or phone calls, with the intention or belief that the man’s connection with the child may foster emotional or financial commitment from the man and so on and so forth..
The number one cause of the single mother syndrome used to be broken down marriages and divorce cases, but today, it doesn’t even get to marriage before it breaks down. Sometimes it’s just an irresponsible one night stand or a few days/weeks of a senseless fling that leads to the birth of another life… Some men today feel comfortable just dropping it like it’s hot and moving along.. Some of these men having 3,4,5 or more children from different mothers with zero commitment to anyone.
A lot of men grew up with single or irresponsible mothers and absentee fathers, leading to them growing up to replicate the same or worse.
The case of rape, violent attacks, fraud, homosexuality, gender confusion, killings etc. Is on the rise all over the world.. This failure may very well be one of the biggest contributors to it.
