The roles of the Nigerian youths in the emergence of new Nigeria
Nigeria is a blessed nation, a nation that got its name from the lips of a woman named Flora Shaw, a name derived from the one of the rivers that runs through the veins of the country, a river so large that it helped divide the nation into three with the help of another river named river Benue.
A country decorated with diverse cultures, languages and tribes, beautiful in its diversity and astounding in its unity when it comes to sports and entertainment. But one would think that a country this blessed would make waves when it comes to innovations and leading ideas but that isn’t the case.
Nigeria, a country often addressed by the term the “giant of Africa” because of its large population, the most populated black nation in the world, an advantage that mother nature gave us when men decided to heed the instruction that said ‘be fruitful’ and according to the last census, it was recorded that 60% of this large population were youths, last year the president signed into bill that youths weren’t too young to run for elections however it has always been said that the youths are the leaders of tomorrow, the new Nigeria is a term coined up by the patriots who believe that a set of Nigerians would arise and make this country great again.
There are youths who can make this dream happen but how? This is the million dollar question, first patriotism needs to be enacted in the hearts of the youths, the NYSC scheme was established to that purpose after the horrors of the civil war cause a genocide of over 2 million nigerians, we need to see each part of the country as ours, whether it is the attacks in the Benue state, or the kidnapping in the Kaduna state or the erosion in Abia State, or the flooding that happens in Lagos, we must all admit that this is our nation and what happens to one happens to all. It is shortened and tribalism that strengthens nepotism, we don’t care of the qualifications of another because he or she isn’t from my state of tribe. The new Nigerian youths must embrace patriotism for what it really is, when patriotism is in place this would make the youths to find skills to fill in the gaps where there are problems.
There are problems in every nation but the difference is what the youths are doing to stop it, the United Arab Emirates had to train her youths to go learn more about artificial intelligence just so they could become more efficient engineers to solve that problem, we have people who need to train to be better leaders, defenders, historians, magnates, digital marketers etc even without the help of the government, all it takes is for one who has the knowledge to share it and in doing so, Nigeria is becoming great again.
Lastly we have a lot of talents in Nigeria whose dreams might not see the light of the day because no one believed in them, we have lost a lot good talents because they felt that travelling outside was the best option but the truth still remains that only nigerians can help Nigeria, until we take a stand for our nation, foreigners won’t do the same, sometimes all it takes for others to believe in a thing is just for one to have the faith, No great achievement comes easy, I believe that with these points, there would be an emergence of a new Nigeria from her youths.
