Adamawa State Police Squad arrested a 56-year-old man Saturday for beating his 38-year-old wife to death.

 

Suspect Aminu Abubakar, a resident of Lelewaji, Shagari Phase 2, Yola South LGA, allegedly beat the late Nana Fadimatu after a disagreement between them.

 

Abubakar reportedly heard that the deceased would marry a new husband the next day, State Police Command spokesman SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje said in a statement on Sunday.

Angered by this information, the suspect allegedly hit Fadinatu with a hard object around 10 p.m. on Friday.

 

According to police, she was rendered unconscious and later pronounced dead.

 

The suspect was arrested by police at Shagari Police Division Headquarters after receiving a report from husband Mahmud Rufai of Shagari Annex, South Yola Local Government Area.

 

‘s investigation so far revealed that the suspect, manager of Anasam Table Water in Jambutu 50 Housing, had one (1) child with the deceased after nine years of marriage.

 

Police Commissioner CP Afolabi Babatola, while expressing shock, commended Shagari’s DPO for arresting the suspect and “making it impossible for him to escape justice”.

 

Meanwhile, as part of an effort to address criminal activity and other related crimes in the state, the Police Commissioner has appointed officers from the Anti-Homicide Unit, affiliated with the state’s CID, to take over the investigation and ensure that the law take his place.

 

He also urged the public to report suspicious individuals in their neighborhood to the police.
