Delta Police are not pulling anyone over for driving their vehicle with more than one person and have not handed out any tickets for such a thing, the department said in a tweet, claiming these are just rumours.

Police will be, and are now in fact, pulling cars over questioning where they are going & ‘warning’ that as of today (Mar 30/20) they will be fining anyone with MORE than one person in the car and who are making ‘non-essential’ trips out!

The force took to social media to dispel any misinformation. They said they have not pulled anyone over to ensure social distancing amid the pandemic, noting officers don’t have the authority to even do so.

“This is not true. no tickets have been handed out for any such reasons here in Delta,” reads a tweet.

While Delta Police are on the road, it is to enforce the Motor Vehicles Act, they said.

Similar claims regarding police fines arose recently in Vancouver when a woman posted in a Facebook group recounting an experience of someone getting pulled over and fined for driving with a friend they didn’t live with.
