Daddy Freeze Criticizes Worship Session at  Alexx Ekubo’s Service of Songs

BBN’s Cross Okonkwo weighed in on the ongoing controversy of Daddy freeze with the gospel singer due to late actor Alexx Ekubo.

The Service of Songs held in honour of late Nollywood actorAlexx  Ekubo has continued to generate conversations on social media after media personality Daddy Freeze expressed reservations about the worship session led by gospel artistes during the event.

The memorial gathering, which took place in Lagos on June 10, 2026, brought together family members, colleagues, celebrities, and close friends who paid tribute to the late actor through prayers, worship, and heartfelt speeches. Gospel ministers led songs of worship as attendees celebrated Alexx Ekubo’s life and legacy.

However, Daddy Freeze took to social media to question the style of the programme, arguing that he did not agree with turning a memorial service into what he described as a worship concert. His remarks immediately triggered mixed reactions from Nigerians, with many defending the organisers while others agreed with his observations.

“I was mourning I saw his wife who’s now a window, I saw his brother, sisters, the person who spoke on behalf of the family”

“I didn’t want to hear sermon but I can tolerate sermon, you could just sing a hymns,I could have been moved, this is someone you won’t see again”

“then Pastor Nathaniel Bassey came  on stage and blew his trumpet, I understand the trumpet in revelation linking it with end of the world, Alex world may his soul rest in peace,”

“Nathaniel said he never met Alex in person that one of his pastors asked him to go and pray for Alex on Monday but he died  on Tuesday before their arrival but they still sing and pray for him on his dying bed;  I think, that could be an opportunity for you to showcase all the healings, miracles you  performed and posted on your platforms?”

Actor Mofe Duncan Fires Back at Daddy Freeze

Reacting to Daddy Freeze’s comments, Nollywood actor Mofe Duncan strongly defended the Service of Songs and those who organised it.

According to him “The night wasn’t about you or anyone else but ALEXX.”

He further explained that the gathering was specifically organised as a night of worship and tributes, stressing that Alexx Ekubo loved worship and that those closest to him considered the atmosphere appropriate for celebrating his life.

Actor Duncan also criticised Daddy Freeze for making the event about himself instead of allowing the family and friends of the deceased to mourn in peace.
