You don’t have your versus quite right, but I understand your question. Are we saved by faith or works? The answer is this. By grace, we are saved through faith. Then, because of our faith we are to do good works in God’s name. Think of faith as the branch and works as the fruit. It is the result of faith.

James explains that we are not saved by our works. For example, just because someone is a good person and does good things does not mean they have a relationship with God. Being a good person is not the standard for getting into heaven.

You’ll notice in the first paragraph I threw in the word grace. It is essential to remember that no matter what we do in this life we have sinned and do not deserve heaven. Only through God‘s grace does he allow us the opportunity to enter heaven.
