The Toronto Police Service says one of its officers has been charged for allegedly taking a missing person’s belongings and has been suspended with pay, as per the Police Services Act.
Police say on February 17, officers launched a missing person investigation and an officer who was assigned to the case took possession of the individual’s things.
Police say the officer allegedly gave the missing person’s debit card to another man, who used it at a store in Mississauga, and the two also fraudulently obtained vehicles.
On Monday, 48-year-old Constable Boris Borissov of Toronto was arrested, according to police, and he’s been charged with theft, fraud, breach of trust, trafficking credit card, use credit card in the commission of offence, attempt to obstruct justice, possession of property obtained by crime, and unauthorized use of a computer system.
Borissov is a 16-year member with the force and is scheduled to appear in court on May 27.
