Following recent drama that has culminated the #Endsars protest some media station has also received their own backlash for televising and broadcasting news regarding the Lekki toll gate shooting last Tuesday.

This development by the Nigeria Broadcasting commission (NBC) Left three stations namely; AIT, Arise Tv & Channel Tv fined 3m for alledgdly using video footage from social media to verify authenticity of event that occurred in the Lekki toll gate shooting without prior Investigations.

This was stated by the chairman of the Nigeria Broadcasting Commission yesterday Monday. According to Armstrong Idachaba who is the Acting Director-General of the Commission in his statement below;

Three major television stations have been sanctioned by the National Broadcasting Station(NBC). The Nation is reporting.

According to the Acting Director-General of the Commission, Armstrong ldachaba who made theannouncement on Monday, October 26, 2020, alleged that the Africa Independent Television (AIT), Arise Television and Channels Television violated thebroadcast code, top of which is the use ofunverifiable online video footages on social media.

It is reported that the television stations were accused of airing unverified images of the alleged shooting which took place at Lekki toll gate and the tv stations were fined N3m each over the coverage.

Idachaba who added that DAAR Communications, owners of AIT, will be fined separately for using an unverifiable news item on the fire incident at the National Christian Centre, warned that this will be the last warning before a heavier sanction will be introduced.
