The electoral commission has declared Ugandan long time ruler Youweri Museveni as the winner of Thursday’s presidential elections.

Museveni won with 5,851,037, 58.64% of the nearly 10 million votes cast while musician turned politician Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) came second with 3,475,298, 34.83% of the total votes.

The election was marred with reports of rigging, late delivery of voting materials, and insufficient material at numerous polling locations amidst a government ordered internet shut down.

Bobi Wine on Thursday accused the electoral commission of rigging the election in favor of the incumbent president, a claim the commission has strongly denied.

Ugandan opposition leader, Bobi Wine had earlier declared himself the winner of the election while rejecting the early results.

The electoral commission’s declaration of results connotes that Museveni, who has ruled Uganda since 1986 would pilot the county’s affairs for another 5 years.
