THE REVIEW OF THE MOVIE TURNING RED

Turning Red follows Meilin “Mei” Lee, a 13-year-old Chinese-Canadian student who, due to a hereditary curse, transforms into a giant red panda when she expresses any strong emotion. Inspired by Shi’s experiences growing up in Toronto

Mei has always wanted to be the perfect daughter for her mom, does her chores, does her assignments, but has a crush on a boy band named 4 Town.

Disney has always had a way to portray their feminism through movies, Mulan, Ariel (little mermaid), Raya and the last dragon, Pocahontas, Moana, Brave etc

I think this movie isn’t just about turning into pandas although the Chinese culture was greatly portrayed but about puberty and how certain parents don’t pay attention to how their children change their taste and desires when they become teenagers, although I don’t agree with some parts of the movie but we should try to create a relationship that can make it easier for children to share delicate matters with us as parents or elderly ones.

Ming wanted the best for her daughter Mei same way her own mother wanted the best for her by refusing her marriage with Mei’s dad.

We saw how Mei found comfort not in her parents but in her friends which thankfully were good people, I kept imagining what if her friends were the wrong folks, probably they would have influenced her to use her panda for something worse like stealing, bullying etc

Somethings are child-like, we should allow children be children some times, allow them to to godly parties, have fun with their friends (godly friends)

But more importantly, create a relationship with them so that they can easily confide in us with their little secrets, the way Ming publicly embarrassed Mei for having a crush on a guy who didn’t even know he was being crushed on was too extreme for Christ sake and some parents are like that.

You kill every dream your child has because it’s not in line with yours, our children can never be us, we should allow them be their selves especially when we are sure we raised them well.. there is a place for guidance of course but there’s a place for choice as well.

Sorry for spoiling the movie for those who haven’t seen it yet
