STEWARDSHIP (MANAGEMENT)
Many people have dreams but sometimes do not have the time to look after or supervise those dreams so they hire stewards.
It’s not really that they are carefree or careless but they are trying to source for more time to focus on other areas of their business.
Every steward is given management over a thing, estate, etc based on their perceived capability.
A popular parable of Jesus spoke about how a master gave talents to his servants according to their abilities.
There are two qualities expected of a steward, that is faithfulness (loyalty) and wisdom.
Many people handle certain things carelessly because it isn’t theirs, when I look at the story of David, how he rescued a lamb from a lion’s mouth, it tells alot about the heart of David, certain teenagers wouldn’t do that or risk their lives for something of that worth, knowing fully well that he wasn’t paid for it as it was his father’s flock.
Or looking at the young Hebrew, Joseph who was a slave in his master’s house, served his way to becoming the head of other servants and in charge of his master’s household, one doesn’t serve his way to the top without a large measure of faithfulness and loyalty.
Stewardship doesn’t start when you have been made a manager, it starts from how you view everything about you, your life, your health, your gifts and talents, someone’s loan, etc
Let me talk about loans, when you borrow loans from someone, an entity or individual, how do you manage it, do you pay back immediately or do you take your time to pay back, some don’t even pay at all, I had a friendship that I had to cut off because a friend of mine borrowed 500 naira from me some years back, then the money didn’t mean much but his response when I asked him for it showed me that I had the wrong friend.
How do you manage your time, I once heard a popular pastor say he doesn’t keep chairs in his office so that people don’t waste his time, you come in and stand, the pressure makes you say what you have to say quickly and I’ve seen different CEO imbibe this, because the truth is if you don’t value your time, you won’t know how much someone’s is.
I’ve seen people who meet other persons probably in their DM with an entitlement that you should respond to them quickly and speedily, it’s because you don’t value time, I’m a very busy person, obviously so, so I know how important free hours are to me I don’t even abuse other people’s free time especially when I know how valuable they are because people who are extremely valuable hardly have time for themselves, they are always needed.
A friend was telling me how a man of God was fully booked for this year, like you can get him to speak for you in any occasion this year except by God’s mercy or you book ahead next year, can you imagine that?
Stewardship is having a resource in your care that was given to you in trust, another name for a steward is a manager, a steward is expected to faithfully handle, wisely multiply whatever that has been entrusted to them because there’s always a season of accountability that determines promotion or withdrawal.
In our day, it’s hard to see faithful stewards, no one wants to suffer, everyone wants to make it quickly but without managing someone’s. There is a process to this stewardship, you have to be accountable.
Even Jesus on the day of his death had to give account of his disciples and gave the reason why Judas won’t be with the disciples even though they were just 12, a lecturer in school jokingly told us that account is the only course that would be needed even after death for we would all give ACCOUNT of our lives đ¤Ł
Learn to be accountable, when someone gives you a grant, how do you spend it, on your fleshly desires or on what it was meant for?
Be a faithful and wise steward of your own first before you seek to manage that of another’s.
Hope you found value
