The Rivers State Police Command arrested a security officer, John Danjuma, for allegedly murdering his former employer with a machete.

The deceased, identified as Boma Amaomu-Jumbo, former Administrative Director of UPTH, was killed by the suspect at her residence at Dandison Close, Amaechi Drive, GRA, Port Harcourt on Tuesday 9 May 2023.

It was established that Danjuma was previously arrested and is on trial for allegedly stealing $10,000 from the deceased.

Although he denied stealing the money, he was reportedly granted bail and the case was adjourned for further hearing at a later date.

Video circulating online shows the suspect being questioned by police officers from the State Crime and Inquiry Agency in Port Harcourt.

According to the suspect, he broke into his former boss’s home in the early hours before the next court hearing in the case, which was scheduled for Friday 12 May 2023.

After finding his way into the compound, he smashed the kitchen shield to gain access to the main building and hid there to perfect his sinister motive.

The security guard then took a machete he found in the kitchen and waited until it rained, then entered one of the rooms and murdered his former boss.

After committing the crime, he stole some of her jewelry and tried to escape.

But his luck ran out when neighbors sounded the alarm when they exited the building and saw bloodstains all over his body.

During interrogation, Danjuma confessed to the crime and claimed that the woman accused him of stealing her money, around $10,000.

“You and I have problems and this woman is taking me to court and our case will be filed tomorrow. You’re accusing me of stealing $10,000. But I didn’t steal the money,” he said.

Commando SP spokeswoman Grace Iringe-Koko, who confirmed the incident and Danjuma’s arrest, said the matter is still under investigation.

Yes, the command is aware of the incident. “The suspect was arrested and the matter was referred to the state’s Directorate-General for Investigations and Criminology,” he said.
