REVIEW OF THE MOVIE POWER OF ONE
First I want to confess that this movie got me so emotional in a messy way, emotional doesn’t mean sad, it can also mean anger.
It brought back the pain that was caused by apartheid, this movie was about a white boy who was trained to speak in a language familiar with blacks in South Africa early before the apartheid policy was revoked, the white boy by name PK was even hated by his white friends who saw him as a black for choosing to identify with them, growing up he became friends with a doctor who happened to reside in the prison where the blacks were kept. He made friends with a colored man names Piet who taught him how to box (a skill that came in handy in this movie)
Funny enough, Piet was killed by a prison guard ( who was a white so he didn’t get any punishment)
Growing up, PK became an intelligent man, started dating a lady named Maria who was the daughter of a renowned National party leader ( who really didn’t like the blacks for political reasons)
This movie first portrayed that the liberty we live in and enjoy were struggled for by others, The Slave trade abolition, Killing of twins, sacrifices, Christianity, the bible that you read with no interest, even the Salvation that we so enjoy with belief in our heart and confession in our mouths was paid for by someone.
Sometimes we belittle the efforts that people pay to make sure that we live a comfortable life, sometimes from our parents, the education we now have.
The Power of One isn’t just that one person has all the power that they need but when you take that step, and people become infused with that voice of yours then that synchronized voice that is one becomes powerful. Anyone who needs a change in our political sphere needs to watch that movie at least once and gain courage for the journey of a thousand miles starts with a step
