Every business needs trust to be established so that their customers and clients wouldn’t have to doubt them.

Trust is the reliance on someone’s or something’s ability, integrity and durability

In a world where people are scared of doing business with the wrong people, people would prefer to follow the KLT principle which is that people only buy from sellers they Know, Like and Trust.

Sometimes we are really genuine business owners and people know and like us but how do we get them to trust us because there might be a thousand and one person rendering the same services that you do and most of them even started way before you so why should anyone patronise you first.

Below are 5 ways to establish trust with your customers, clients and consumers.

1. Empathythe ability to understand and share the feelings of another and see things from their perspective.

Empathy is what opens the door for a business owner to allow customers trust them, customers won’t trust you until they can see that you understand their pain points and can relate with what they are doing.

One of the ways to establish or create empathy is through your brand stories, what story are you telling your customers, Isn’t it funny how Coca-Cola never advertises about how sweet or cool their drink is but about how their drink can be used to bond people, share feeling even their slogan says “taste the feeling” can a feeling really be tasted? Well I let you be the judge of that

Do you share how to ease the pain points of your customers, do you always sound like a robot.

A popular soap brand during the pandemic advised their customers to always wash their hands to prevent the virus but they didn’t specify that your hands must be washed with their soap, they explicitly said that any soap can be used because their consumer’s lives matter more to them then their profit and that created empathy, guess which soap sold more after the pandemic, yea you guessed right.

2. Reliability

People want to know that they can rely on you, do you always do what you say you will do? Do you deliver on the terms that you promised that you would, a wise man said “over promise and over deliver the promise, that’s how you keep customer’s trust”

Even when something goes wrong, do you tell your customers and let them know about it or do you keep mute and wait for them to find out and then complain to you (because most of them might complain aggressively while the rest won’t bother to patronise you because the trust has been broken)

3. Competency (Authority)

People trust those who have shown their abilities over time, when you have delivered on a particular job long enough, people would know that you are an authority and competent.

So they easily trust you because they know that you will deliver as you normally do.

People trust business owners who are reliable and show their reliability.

4. Vulnerability

Every body knows that we are all humans and we are all imperfect, so no one is expecting a business to be so perfect in all their dealings.

One of the things that establish trust is when a
Firm, company is able to show her vulnerability to her customers.

A customer would trust you when you tell them that you don’t have certain skills, resources or talent to execute a project but you’ll try your best to deliver than telling them that you’re the best and then you’re trying your best to deliver and finally disappoint them, they will lose their trust for you quickly.

This has a side effect and consequences in the sense that your competitors can use that weakness against you but it would make your customers become loyal and trust you because you were honest with them.

5. Consistency

A business owner should be consistent with their visibility, brand stories, competency and reliability then the trust would always continue to be there.

How consistent is your brand, your product solving needs and problems, your product’s consistency in executing what you say it does will establish trust in the heart of your customers, so hope you are ready to establish trust?
