Obi Iyiegbu is a 46 years old billionaire businessman who hails from Idemili-south of Anambra state eastern Nigeria. He is the chairman of the Cubana group, this earned him the epithet Obi Cubana.
A Funeral Or The Billionaires Club Jamboree
Exactly three months ago he gave his 75 years old mum an exorbitantly, lavished and record-breaking funeral with over $100,000 diamond pendants, more than 500 fleets of luxury cars, 67 private jets, 400 cows, over 4 containers of drinks. With all many VIP’s, celebrities in attendance. Davido amongst the unending list was notably present.
The record-breaking funeral made known his philanthropic and social prowess known. Much accolades to the loud social media.
This gave rise to some level of cynicism as to the source of his wealth as he hasn’t been heard of or seen in this manner before by so many.
The grandiose of the funeral placed him on a hotspot, on the spotlight of the money laundering law.
His Arrest; An Art Of Jealousy, Or The The Law In Motion.
However, some level of scepticism has subtly crept in as the Economic Financial Crime Commission( EFCC) arrested Obi Cubana the life of the party socialite and chairman of the Cuban group.
Following the “spree and spray of the naira” at his mothers funeral. This arrest aroused an uprising among some groups, who accrued his arrest to a political and tribal assail.
Some said he was arrested because of the upcoming Anambra state elections, others say it was an attack on the Igbo tribe, claiming it’s a pattern that had been on, following the probing of some Igbo politicians such as Ayim Pious Ayim and Ifeanyi Ubah.
Obi Cubana arrived at Jabil, the EFCC headquarters in Abuja at noon on Monday 1st of November 2021. He was still been interrogated up until 10:30 pm.
The allegations against the billionaire businessman tottered around money laundering and tax evasion.
Obi Cubana’s Release
On Tuesday the 2nd of November 2021, news of his release ravaged the internet after spending 24 hours in the custody of the EFCC, as posted on the Instagram of Valentine Onwumelu his friend on Tuesday evening.
An EFFC correspondent said he couldn’t keep him in custody for 48 hours, not without a court injunction.
Although we haven’t heard from the accused himself, Obi Cubana is known as a man of few words.
