Corona Virus disease popularly called COVID-19 was first reported to W.H.O (World Health organization) from Wuhan, China on 31st December, 2019. The Outbreak was declared a public health emergency of international concern on 30th January, 2020 and declared a pandemic on 11th March 2020.

Nigeria records first cases of Covid-19 | Upstream Online

A virus from the family of other respiratory diseases like Severe acute respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS). It can be contracted through droplets from affected persons, touching already infested surfaces and touch the mouth, eyes and nose with infected hands. The symptoms are fever, flu symptoms, difficulty in breathing, multi organ failure like kidney

Since the Virus can be transmitted through contact, social distancing was advised and certain states declared a lockdown until things get better which had an impact on the transportation industry.

The Road transportation employs the use of Buses, Taxis,Cabs and commuters, and although the government has reduced the fuel price by about 18 percent, This reason was not strong enough for the local drivers who increased the fare to make ends meet because of lack of adequate customers and the minimum requirement of passengers allowed per journey.

The rich who could afford the fare sometimes pay double to maintain the social distance and prevent transmission and as selfish as this reason may seem it has been helpful so far while the poor who can only afford one seat pray to God and use a face mask.

I would advise that helicopters and ambulances be available at all times to convey those infected to reduce the level of transmission while transporting them to isolated areas, the price of fuel can further be subsidized, fines can be in place for drivers who violate the minimum requirement of passengers, face masks and gloves should be provided for air flight passengers and it should be disposed carefully immediately after flight. Transport companies that enable payment online can be encouraged like the Uber and taxify With these few safety practices. We will defeat COVID-19 faster.
