Timipre Marlin Sylva, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Nigeria, and chairman of the board of Nigerian National petroleum corporation. One of the richest Nigerian politician and a popular one in Bayelsa State, with a net worth of $5 million.
Timipre Sylva is also a one-time governor of Bayelsa State. During the time he was the governor of Bayelsa State, he was in active service for one term only from the year 2008-2012.
He succeeded the office of the Minister of State Petroleum and Resources in the 21st August, 2019, and is currently Nigeria Minister of State of Petroleum Resources.
Timipre Sylva is more of a politician than he is a Business person, Sylva is the kind of fellow that knows what he wants, and stands strong. Timpre Sylva had only served as governor of Bayelsa State for only one term, and has more ambitious goals of serving longer.
In alignment with the Constitution of Nigeria, Timpre Sylva still has the constitutional right to contest for another term (4 years). Since the year 2012, when his tenure as the governor of Bayelsa State ended, Sylva has made other attempts to return as the governor of Bayelsa State, but has failed in his efforts to.
And with this respect, Timprey Marlin Sylva, has made his intentions known again to the press, his intentions of running for the 2023 governorship position under the All Progressive Congress (APC) Party, in Bayelsa State.
Consumed with his ambitious dream of being the number one citizen of the state, he has been told to resign his position as the Minister of State petroleum and resources, if he is going to be running for the governorship position.

Just like a replay of what happened in the past, it was in 2006 he resigned from his position as Special Assistant to the Minister of State Petroleum and resources to join the PDP gubernatorial primaries in bayelsa state, and successfully emerged as the governor of the state in 2008.
It is happening again, but this time controversies rouses on the report of Timipre Sylva’s resignation as the Minister of State Petroleum and resources.
From the reports on the news, according to informations gotten from the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) Abuja on Friday, 31st March, sources says that, Timipre Sylva, submitted his resignation letter to President Muhammadu Buhari.
But, Party members from 43 wards in Ekeremor, Ogbia, Sagbama, kolokuma/Opokuma and Southern ijaw Local Government Areas of the state, had reported in a petition to the Party National leadership, that as at the time the Minister was screened, he had not yet resigned.
According to sources, Mr Sylva has expressed interest to contest for governorship election in Bayelsa State, and will participate in the forthcoming All Progressive Congress (APC) primary election on April.
Horatius Egua, the Spokesperson for the minister, couldn’t agree whether or not the minister had resigned. In a statement he made, he said he could not deny or confirm the resignation because he had not seen the resignation letter or officially informed of the resignation by the minister.
The countering opinions and statements from different impeccable sources made what seem to be the fact a rumour.
But according to the Constitution of the All Progressive Congress, it demands that the minister have to resign in about 30 days before the scheduled date for the governorship primary.
The President Muhammadu Buhari’s special Assistant on digital communications, Bashir Ahmed, statement had clarified speculation surrounding the minister resignation.
“Minister of State for Petroleum and Resources, and former Bayelsa state governor, H.E. Timipre Sylva, has resigned, over his appointment to contest in the next Bayelsa governorship election, he said over a tweet in a Twitter post on Friday.

Conclusion
The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has fixed November 11, 2023, for governorship elections in Bayelsa, kogi and Imo States. April 17, 2023, are scheduled dates for political parties’ primaries.
Chief Timipre had resigned from his position as minister to pursue his ambitious goal of becoming the governor of Bayelsa state. This news has dissolved every doubts on the matter of his resignation, but would this dream of becoming the number one citizen of Bayelsa state come true?
