John Ikechukwu Okafor, who is popularly known by his stage name Mr Ibu from a popular movie he starred in, died at 62 years on the 2nd Of March 2024.

Early Life Of Mr Ibu.

Mr Ibu born on 17 October 1961, a native of Umunekwu, Former Eastern region (now known as Nkanu West L.G.A Enugu State)

 starred in over 200 movies. He later moved to Sapele where he stayed with his elder brother after his father’s death.

In Sapele, Mr Ibu did menial jobs to train himself through school. He worked as a hairstylist, photographer and later worked with a company that produced crates.

He dropped out of College Education, Yola, due to financial incapability.

Mr Ibu finally got his degree at the Institute Of Management And Technology (I.M.T) Enugu.

More so, his acting in the Mr Ibu series (2004) got him his popular name “Mr Ibu”. He acted in numerous movies. Before he ventured into acting, he was a boxer, football coach and even karate practitioner.

He was multi-talented, he also showed his talent in the music industry when he produced the songs titled “This Girl” and “Do you know”. His music was popular then, although he didn’t stay in the music industry for long.

Mr Ibu’s Personal Life And Health Challenges.

Mr ibu has over 10 children produced from 2 different women who he was married to at 2 different stages in his life.

In October 2023, Mr Ibu revealed his health challenges which threatened that one of his legs needed to be amputated. According to him, this health challenge started when he was on set with other Nollywood actors. 

He solicited for help from his fans and well-wishers to help facilitate the treatment of his ailment and cover his medical bills.

Nevertheless, on October 18, 2023, The Abubakar Bukola Saraki foundation, founded by the one-time senate president of Nigeria, cleared off his medical bills. While maintaining that Mr Ibu still needed financial assistance to aid him travel abroad to receive modified treatment. 

One of his legs was amputated in November, after surviving an ailment that required seven surgeries. His family revealed that the amputation was necessary to keep him alive and raise his chances of recuperation.

Furthermore,  his manager, Mr Don Single Nwauzor said Mr Ibu suffered Cardiac Arrest for 24 years.

Sadly, Mr Ibu died of Cardiac Arrest on the 2nd of March 2024, at Evercare Hospital in Lagos State, Nigeria.

Following Mr Ibu’s death, his adopted daughter, Jasmine renamed his Tiktok account with million followers to her name and deleted all of his videos which didn’t feature her.

This has raised alarm on the internet,  as fans question her decision to act immediately within 24hrs of his death.

Previously,  Jasmine and Mr Ibu’s son were arrested in January 2024, their supposed crime being the hacking of Mr Ibu’s phone and stealing of $60,700 from him. 

Mr Ibu’s death became a thing of sorrow on the 2nd March 2024, as Nigerians mourned him nationwide and fellow Nollywood actors took to their pages to mourn his death.
