Another Mark In Guinea History

Another taint on African history, as Col. Mamady Doumbouya, Pulls off a successful coup in Guinea.

The guinea government was toppled on Sunday 5th of September under the 11 years presidency of now Ex-president Alpha Conde.

National Committee for Rally and Development, or CNRD for its French acronym. Stormed the presidential villa on Sunday 5th September, led by Col. Mamady Doumbouya.

Guinea was colonised by France in the 1890s, which makes it a Francophone nation. she later gained her independence on 2 October 1958, exactly two years and a day earlier than Nigeria.

A Cogent Reason Or A Lame excuse

The takeover was characterised by a shoot out between the presidential convoy and the CNRD group, this lead to several casualties.

They overpowered the presidential envoy detaining in an undisclosed President, now ex-President Alpha Condé ending his 11 years of democratic rule.

The constitutional was dissolved almost immediately after the takeover in a broadcast aired by the leader of the CNRD group.

Col. Mamady Doumbouya has assured the United Nations and the ECOWAS a stable mental and physical health of the Ex-president, adding that Alpha Condé is always in touch with his doctors.

However, the United Nations and the ECOWAS has condemned the takeover, calling for the release of ex- Alpha Conde.

Col. Mamady Doumbouya in his own words said,

“Our action is not a coup d’etat, It only reflects the legitimate aspiration of people to want to live in an environment where basic human needs can be met.”

He also stated his grievances leaving a long list that includes, “the trampling of citizens’ rights, the disrespect for democratic principles, the outrageous politicization of public administration, financial mismanagement, poverty and endemic corruption.” all by the democratic government of Alpha Condé

Mixed Reactions

Several International organisations have blatantly mouthed their dissatisfaction over the incident.

However, with the pictures and videos of several Guinea citizens jubilating and cheering the CNRD, we are forced to think contrary to the disposition of these same international bodies.

Col. Mamady Doumbouya is an elite soldier with several stars and scars backing this up. 15 years of military experience is no child’s play. With and his impressive physique, The col. Who is 41 years old was in the French Foreign Legion. Rising to the rank of the master corporal he was called to command both SFG; a Guinea special force against terrorism and maritime piracy.

Doumbouya’s military experience traversed missions in cote d’ Ivoire, Central African Republic, Afghanistan and several others. He took part in a U.S. military training exercise focused on curbing terrorism known as Flintlock, as well as an Israeli military training.

Effect In The Economy

Guinea is known for its massive deposit of bauxite which is a crucial raw material for aluminium production.
Current guinea is on an all-around lockdown, thus no export. This has resulted in a rise in the price of aluminium.

Effect In Sports

Morroco’s football stars remain stuck in Guinea as the supposed FIFA World cup qualifiers between Morocco and Guinea has been stalled, no statement has been made by FIFA yet.
