It is no cheery news for ardent fans of Manchester United, as Greater Manchester Police, on Sunday, arrested Mason Greenwood, on the suspicion of rape and assault, just as the club announced an indefinite suspension of the embattled player.
This is on the heels of social media images and videos shared by Greenwood’s purported girlfriend, giving a graphic detail of physical violence meted out on her.
Reacting to the incident, the club said, “We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media.
We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established.
Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind”.
On this note, the club prudently resolved that Mason Greenwood would not be returning to training or playing matches until further notice.
With investigation ongoing and Greenwood in police custody, lovers of the famous English team across the globe have expressed dissatisfaction over the ugly scandal, while closely monitoring the outcome.
The 20-year-old footballer has 129 appearances since his debut in 2019, and recently signed a four-year deal in February 2021 for the Manchester United club.
