LESSON FROM THE MOVIE “FAR FROM HOME”

It’s a netflix movie series produced by Nigerians for Nigerians, the movie features artists like Funke Akindele-Bello, Richard Mofe-Damijo, Mike Afolarin.

Far From Home is the first Nigerian young adult movie to be streamed on Netflix

The movie is centred around a working class artists who shuttles three jobs to be able to fund his dream of studying in a fellowship with his idol and mentor but somehow manages to get a scholarship into a prestigious high school and makes new friends as well as new enemies.

This movie for me shows the life of many youths who are trying to achieve their dreams amidst the nation’s issues and lack of social amenities, development and structure to improve Innovation of minds.

Even though the star of the movie, Ishaya was talented, he couldn’t do much because his brother had died due to the black tax as well.

The movie taught me so many lessons, I loved how Ishaya’s friend was so selfless to even loan him money at the cost of his job and integrity, how he willingly allowed his house to be his friend’s workplace and even went ahead to get him clients, every working class needs a Micheal in their life

One could see how bad Ishaya’s life turned out because he stole money to chase his dream, so one can say that Rahila was wise enough to know her limits while chasing their dream, the beginning of his failure started after he stole that money from Government.

Jealousy took Adufe all the way to the drug business that she never bargained, some things can be settled amicably but sometimes we let our emotions drive us to do something we would later regret.

I loved how the producers had to borrow cheerleading and football from other high school movies, and even made Reggie the school captain, the movie is so entertaining and insightful with elements of the Nigerian urban and rural culture blended so perfectly.

Denrele, the son of the business man, showed me how much one would try to make friends to no avail because they have nothing of value to give.

Frank became friends because with Ishaya because he tried to genuinely be interested in Ishaya unlike Denrele who bullied Ishaya when he was a cleaner at his house, Zina became friends with Ishaya because she helped him with knotting his tie (God when)

Reggie became friends with Ishaya because he saw that he was a good player and he was friends with Zina.

Atlas was friends with Carmen because he needed her family’s help with getting the grant, so value is definitely one thing that attracts people to be your friend.

The movie is a tale of a youth’s hustle of survival in a world where friends and family are all you’ve got and a dream to hope on.

We hope to see more of these movies
