Sometimes, as a business man, there are times when your 4 Ps, are in order.
Place, Product, Price and Promotion yet no sales.
At this point, what do you do? who do you reach out to?
You pray.
Is any man afflicted? Let him pray
And Jabez called out to the God of Isreal saying, “Oh that thou would Bless me indeed and enlarge my coast and that your hand might be with me and thou will keep me from Evil that it may not grieve me AND GOD GRANTED HIM THAT WHICH HE REQUESTED (1 Chronicles 4:10)
Honestly we really don’t know who Jabez was, who his mother was but for some reason, the writer of the Chronicles of the king of Judah decided to enlighten us about a noble man who was nicknamed grief and he was truly in grief.
Prayer is the second pillar of Islam. Allah says in the Holy Quran “Guard strictly your habit of prayers. If you fear, pray on foot or riding” (Quran 2: 238-9)
Sometimes you’re getting it all right but you feel like it’s not just making an impact. We all believe in something; science, pleasure, hard work, God, etc
A tribe in Nigeria, the Igbo tribe has a saying “mmadu ebukwala chi ya uzo gbapu oso” which translates literally “Do not be faster than your god”. This might not really make sense to those in the western world but an average African man is superstitious. And you can’t blame us because a lot of crazy events happen here daily. Men slaughtering children, body parts being sold, underwears getting missing, mysterious wealth, etc
These events are enough to get one to believe in anything, whether voodoo, an animal or an elementary spirit. I don’t want this to be streamlined to just christianity alone.
The story of Jonah in the Bible talked about a ship going to Tarshish (the city of commerce then) and they encountered a tempest. After jettisoning a lot of commercial wares, the traders were advised to call upon their gods.
This was a wise thing to do, the fact that the merchants knew that the first thing to do before panicking was to pray.
So I implore you, “awake from your slumber, arise and call upon your God perhaps he will give a thought to us that we do not perish” (Jonah 1:5-6)
When you reach rock bottom, and there’s nothing left to do and Life’s problems got you on your knees.
That’s the perfect position to pray.
