Nigerians listens to their President speak again on Monday, July 31, 2023 at exactly 7:00am.
The anticipated Presidential speech, was scheduled to hold on Monday, July 31, 2023 at 7:00am, as announced by Dele Alake, the President’s Special adviser on Strategy, communication and Special Duties as he spoke on the News that Monday morning.
This is the second time the President is making an official broadcast to Nigerians ever since he entered office in May 29, 2023, and have decided to brief Nigerians on the reasons why the decision and policy to remove fuel subsidy must stand.
The broadcast stresses around the decision to remove fuel subsidy and it’s impact to the economy of Nigeria and the effect it will have on individual citizens.
The President in his speech did not neglect to address the fact that the policy will have great effect on the cost of living of individuals as the price of goods and services will at once increase.
But, the President in his speech, spoke in a comforting tone on how it is for the betterment of the country at large, seeing that he has made strategic investment plans to channel Trillions of naria yearly spent to sustain fuel subsidy to better the health care sector, transportation sector, schools, housing, national security, among others.
In a record of his speech in a nationwide broadcast that Monday, Tinubu emphasized strongly that;
“The money spent to sustain the subsidy was being funnelled to deep pockets and lavish bank accounts of a select group of individuals, the group had amassed so much wealth and power that the became a serious threat to the fairness of our economy and integrity of our democratic governance”.
“To be blunt, Nigeria could never become the society it was intended to be as long as such small, powerful yet unelected groups hold enormous influence over our political economy and institutions that govern it”.
“The whims of the few should never have dominant sway over the hopes and aspirations of the many. If we are to be a democracy, the people and not the power of money must be sovereign”.
Meanwhile, the breaking news of ending the subsidy regime does not excite Nigerians in any way, because this policy will in no way favour their standard of living, the masses will surely be put into hardship as price of commodity skyrocket to the zenith.
In regards to the policy being made, NLC, Nigeria Labour Congress in a statement reported that “Nigerians have lost their Peace of mind” accompanying the breaking news of the subsidy removal.
In a statement that was signed together by Labour Congress National President, Joe Ajaero, and it’s Secretary-General, Emmanuel Ugboaja, Tinubu administration was flawed over its policies also adding that the administration had continued to treat Nigerians as slaves.
At this fidgeting moment, the lives of individual masses feels threatened, the lives of poor masses that cannot Meetup with the cost of living are hanging on the ropes.
NLC (Nigeria Labour Congress) has begun a mass mobilization ahead of it’s planned Nationwide Strike starting on Wednesday to protest on the suffering and challenge individual citizens will have to go through because of the subsidy removal.
NLC has begun a movement and are urging Nigerians to join them and share their own voice, as they’re meeting at the Unity Fountains, Abuja on Wednesday, August 2, 2023, at 7:00am. NLC in a statement stresses the fact that;
“There is nowhere in the world were government leaves it’s citizens to the vagaries of the market without some measure of control and protection. The Federal Government should immediately deal decisively with the criminal content of subsidy instead of exposing ordinary citizens to avoidable Pain and hardship.
As a matter of national importance, it is imperative to fix all our refineries to be able to cater to domestic fuel consumption”
The possibility of living in lack and want is the dread of individual citizens. The government idea to better the economic sectors of Nigeria by removing subsidy is it worth the challenge ordinary citizens will have to go through?
