Renowned Nigerian actress Nkechi Blessing has made headlines once again, this time for her heartfelt apology to the Theater Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners of Nigeria (TAMPAN) and its president, Bolaji Amusan, very well known as Mr. Latin. This significant moment unfolded onstage at the recent Celebrities Entertainment Awards in Canada, signaling a turn of a new leaf in her relationship with the organization she had previously criticized.

The drama all started back in 2021 when Nkechi, along with her friend and fellow actress Iyabo Ojo, took a stand against TAMPAN, the film industry group. They were upset with TAMPAN for being too easy on Baba Ijesha, an actor involved in a serious child abuse scandal.

Nkechi’s bold criticism didn’t sit well with some TAMPAN members, like actors Yomi Fabiyi and Lege Maimi, leading to some heated tensions. In response, veteran actor Jide Kosoko made a big announcement: he ordered directors to stop working with Nkechi and Iyabo. But rather than back down, Nkechi laughed off the whole situation and kept speaking her mind.

Meanwhile, back then in july 2021, Nollywood star Iyabo Ojo had already apologized, she took to Instagram to say sorry to her senior colleagues at the Theater Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria (Tampan). She shared her heartfelt apology in the comments of a video that showed Tmapan’s president, Baba Latin, along with another woman. It was a moment that caught everyone’s attention at that time. They did not make their apology together same way the made their stand, with the way they made their stand nobody was even expecting an apology from them. It was Iyabo Ojo that was the first to make her apology known and that was in 2021 July, also apologizing on-behalf of her friend. It’s worth noting that Iyabo Ojo’s apology might have paved the way for her return to working with TAMPAN and Mr. Latin, but there’s no explicit confirmation

Fast forward to 3 years after the whole criticism thing must have died down, in a touching moment caught on video at the Nigerian Canadian celebrity entertainment award show in Toronto, Nkechi poured her heart out. She knelt down, looking right at Mr. Latin and the TAMPAN officials, and said, “I miss the industry.” You could see the emotion in her eyes as she spoke, wishing for a chance to make things right. She started asking for forgiveness and in same time saying she is grateful to the industry that shaped her and made her what she is today. The audience watched as she acknowledged her past actions, admitting that her outspoken nature, while intended to bring about change, had ultimately led to division.

She then turned her gaze to Mr. Latin, who, despite past disagreements, looked on with a mix of surprise and admiration urging her to stand up, her statements sounded like she want to be a part of that family again.

Her heartfelt plea met many who witnessed the moment with some kind of excitement and shock. After years of tension and hurt feelings, it seemed as though a bridge was being built. TAMPAN officials looked on thoughtfully, with some nodding in agreement at her honesty, fellow actor odunlade adekola praised her humility, The audience erupted in applause, thanking Nkechi for her bravery to admit her faults and strive for reconciliation.

With that, the atmosphere shifted from one of conflict to forgiveness. Nkechi’s vulnerability may have opened the door for dialogue, and it seemed like the tides were turning. The event ended on a hopeful note, with many industry insiders expressing their support for Nkechi and her efforts to reconcile, optimistic about what the future holds for Nollywood as an evolving and united industry.
