The Nigerian Army has confirmed the detention of Corporal Amina Maidoki, a female soldier accused of misconduct, including theft and behavior deemed inconsistent with military values.
According to a statement released by Lt-Col Appolonia Anele, Acting Director of Army Public Relations, the detention is in line with the Armed Forces Act and the Nigerian Army’s internal regulations.
“As a professional military institution, the Nigerian Army is guided by the Armed Forces Act (Cap A20 LFN 2004), internal policies, and the highest standards of military ethics,” the statement read. “Her detention follows legal procedures applicable to service personnel.”
While the nature of the allegations remains under investigation, the Army emphasized that Maidoki’s rights are being respected throughout the process. Officials noted that she continues to receive appropriate welfare support as stipulated by military standards.
In response to circulating reports alleging unlawful detention or denial of legal representation, the Army firmly dismissed such claims as misleading.
“These assertions are false and appear intended to misinform the public and stir unnecessary emotions,” the Army stated. “We urge members of the public to disregard such narratives.”
The statement reiterated the Army’s commitment to due process, assuring the public that updates would be shared as the investigation progresses.
Acknowledging concerns raised by Maidoki’s family, military authorities expressed willingness to engage, so long as communication remains within legal and procedural boundaries.
“No one is above the law or exempt from military discipline,” the statement concluded. “Misconduct allegations must be addressed lawfully to uphold the integrity and discipline of the Nigerian Army.”
This development comes as the Army continues efforts to reinforce accountability and professional conduct among its personnel.
