"Nigeria will continue to produce a JAPA generation" - AY Makun shares opinion

Award-winning comedian, actor, and producer, Ayo Makun has shared his opinion about the Japa syndrome amongst Netizens and how politicians continue to influence it.

Taking to his Twitter page, Ay opined that the syndrome of relocating overseas tagged as Japa will continue to happen to occur in the country because of corrupt politicians who embezzle money when elected into political positions and have nothing to show off at the end of their tenure.

He wrote: “Nigeria will continue to produce a JAPA generation, not because our land is without milk and honey, but because of evil leaders who usually get into power to gather as much as they can gather for themselves, and then look on and do nothing”.

Pooja asserts Japa is destroying the foundation of friendship

Media personality, Suliman Pooja Adebayo asserted that the relocation of some Nigerians popularly referred to as ‘Japa’ is destroying the foundation of friendship.

Pooja based his assertion on a story he shared about a friend who travelled without informing her friends. These were the same set of friends who bought traditional outfits worth a hundred thousand Naira for her wedding and also organised an expensive bridal shower for her.

Pooja tweeted: “Japa” is destroying the foundation of our friendships. Her friends bought “aso ebi” worth 100K for her wedding, organized a bridal shower for her in a top hotel in Lekki, her wedding lit with videos/photos trending like CNN & on Sunday, they saw her post with her new husband with UK photos. She didn’t tell ANY of them”.

TBoss shades Netizens planning to Japa

Reality TV star, TBoss weighed in on the Japa trend amongst Netizens.

Netizens abroad tagged as ‘Japa-ed people’ often take to social media to give updates and comparisons about life in the diaspora. While many discourage those at home not to relocate (using the term Japa), others advise on the steps to take before relocating.

Sharing her opinion on the Japa syndrome that has engulfed most Netizens, TBoss noted that abroad is not for the faint-hearted and advised that those planning to Japa listen to them.

She wrote: “All your friends who have “japa-ed” and have turned Abroad Specialists & constantly giving y’all ‘Updates’, Listen to them. If you like don’t. Na you sabi. Abroad is not for the faint of heart.

“Nigerians/Africans- we’re truly spoilt. You think you will have a ‘house girl’ to baff your child or give you egusi and pounded yam at the end of a really tough day?

“I laugh in Eskimo language. Think am well before you buy that ticket or sell off your properties. And arrange your monies- for jacket, gloves, shawl, boots, cap and then everything else cos when that Freezing breeze slap you, you go dey beg for that heat wey almost melt your face the other day”.
