Kano State Police Command arrested a 25 year old woman, Raham Sulaiman, for allegedly “kidnapping” her 6 year old daughter Hafsat Kabiru and demanding a ransom of N3 million from her ex-husband.
State Police Commissioner Muhammad Usaini Gumel made the announcement while showing the woman along with other suspects arrested for various crimes at police headquarters in Bompai on Thursday, May 11, 2023.
The woman allegedly took her daughter to a close relative in Madobi for safekeeping and claimed that she would be traveling for several days.
According to the PC, the command received a report from husband Kabiru Shehu that their daughter had been kidnapped.
“On 05/08/2023 a report was received from a certain Kabiru Shehu of Sharada Quarters, Kano Municipal LGA that his ex-wife, a certain Rahma Sulaiman, ‘f’, 25 years old, informed him that their daughter named Hafsat Kabiru, ‘F’, 6 years old, was missing and unknown persons called her on her mobile phone demanding the sum of three million naira (N3,000,000,000) for ransom,” the police chief said.
“In a follow-up investigation, the victim was rescued at Madobi LGA. The divorced woman was arrested and confessed to the plan, taking her daughter into hiding and demanding the ransom. The investigations are ongoing.”
