The Girl Child has really gone through alot in these times. Most African countries do not even value the girl child, we have seen alot of situations where a man has daughters yet still tries to persuade his wife to give him a male Child, failure to do that either disqualifies her for eviction or qualifies him, giving him the right to get an extra wife

Countries like Nigeria where some female children were kidnapped on two different scenarios (Chibok Girls, April 14th 2014 and the Dapchi Girls, 19th February, 2018) clearly show how we undervalue the girl child

How long will the girl child power continue to be suppressed? One might have been belittling the girl child power until the Dapchi Girls were released without Leah Sharibu (a girl who refused to be converted to a Muslim and preferred to die as a Christian)

For the first time in a long while, a girl child shook the World, to stand for something she believed in even in the face of death, if only many girls out there knew how powerful they were. Well Leah did, and for some reason many became convinced that no child is less than another and all children are heritage from the Lord

I don’t want this post to sound so sorrowful, There are so many girls out there doing so well, December 2017 the first teenage girl Governor was sworn in and became governor for a Day, Ezechikamnayo Joy, a lady who earned that spot by winning an essay competition

On the other hand we have Emmanuella who also is an award winning comedian showing us that you can put Nigeria and Africa in the map through creative arts.

Also we also have Zuriel Oduwole, the award winning documentary Nigerian journalist who has interviewed over 29 Presidents and Prime ministers.

Let the Girl Child Shine
Let her embrace her power.
Let her not be Suppressed.
Happy International Girl Child Day
