HOW TO PREPARE FOR WRITING TESTS DURING INTERVIEWS

Most times organisations would not want to test you in oral interviews but with written tests.

Most job applicants have reached out to me asking for how to go about their written tests and how to prepare for it.

Which is why I decided to come up with this content to help job seekers to know how to prepare for written tests and be successful.

1. Be punctual

If your interview is fixed for a time, please come on time because there could be unforeseen circumstances like traffic, an accident, spoilt vehicles, stained clothes etc

It is already expected that you must have done due diligence to seek out the location of the interview and know whether a company like that exists there.

Another reason to be punctual is so that you can rest well and be settled mentally before we start the interview test. Most of these tests are not meant to be written in a hurry and I’ll explain why in another point.

The last reason to be punctual is because sometimes punctuality is also a test. Some companies start testing you from the hour you arrived at the venue.

2. Be mindful of instructions and questions.

I saw in a movie (Exam) where instructions were given that no one should write on the paper and within 2 minutes, a lady broke that rule probably because she has been used to writing on tests or she didn’t hear the instructions properly and she was disqualified.

Instructions are very important during tests, there is no assumption in an interview, where you don’t understand please ask questions for clarity.

3. Prepare for written and Creative contents like an email, letter, essay (mostly for content writers), advert (if it’s a copywriting role), proofreading (for editorial roles) and summary for (news casting, OAP roles)

But the idea is to prepare for written contents around your Job description. It can come in from of a question like where do you see yourself in this company in the next 5 years?, How do you increase the visibility of this company when you join? Write an email to the CEO stating what you might need to do to increase sales in the next 3 months etc

4. Prepare also for questions that has to do with reasoning

Verbal reasoning, inductive reasoning,
Logical reasoning, numerical reasoning.

This test would have to have make you think before you answer, whether it has to do with the verbal, English grammar and punctuations, tenses while the numerical reasoning has to do with mathematical questions, the inductive reasoning has to do with arrangements of diagrams, life scenarios, current affairs, data analysis while the logical reasoning has to do with patterns, sequences and shapes.

Every written test would have to fall under this scenario.

Hope you found value and I wish you the best
