Mental health is a person’s condition with regard to their psychological and emotional well being (Oxford dictionary) it is the general condition of one’s mental and emotional state (Merriam webster dictionary)

Most people only care about their physical health which isn’t bad at all but mental health is more detrimental than physical health when it isn’t well taken care of.

Physical health can be easily detected and taken care of with drugs but the mental health is hard to notice but one can read from the ripple effects like depression, suicidal thoughts, dizziness, weakness, loss of passion, loneliness and this makes the mental health very crucial.

The Bible quoted that “as a man thinks in his heart, so is he” and that we should “guard the heart with all diligence for out of it springs life”

Powerful words to meditate on, there are various things that can lead to a mental breakdown, things like comparison, unhealthy competition, a lost cause, an unachievable goal etc

The Mentality has to do with one’s thought, soul, feelings and emotions, emotions have a way of affecting behaviour, for instance people buy and spend more when they are happy and excited, no one thinks about spending money when they lose their loved ones.

One time, Jesus went to pray and found his disciples sleeping having been in grief (Luke 22:45)
So he didn’t even bother waking them up, grief has a way of limiting your capacity, making one not to make better decisions. In a world where there is alot to whine about, covid, economy, inflation, insecurity it really takes a lot to maintain a good mental health.

People pay huge money to get therapy which is a quick way to have a healthy mindset and mental ability.

Also I’ve noted down some points that will be beneficial towards one having an awesome mental health even in these times.

1) Learn to listen to music

A popular movie known as ‘Soul’ showed a man who loved playing the piano and he said that the music was food for the soul, Kings in the Bible and Africa when depressed sent for musicians to help calm their nerves, some music are really therapeutic, they keep you in a relaxed state, other times it heightens your emotions, makes you nostalgic that you feel like the artist knows exactly how you feel the right words to sing.

You can get a playlist and listen to it as you go about your daily routine, it creates a mood for happiness and joy, you can try learning how to play a musical instrument or a musical class.

2) Learn to rest

We are in an era where we want fast foods, fast cars, fast money, the fast life, we want to do so many things at once that we forget that we are humans, sleep is a signal from your brain that you’ve overworked your self and yes I know that there have series of motivational tales on how to use hours of sleep to be productive but I have good news, two actually, the first one is that you have only one life and this doesn’t mean you should take too serious but try to live it to the fullest and enjoy what matters to you as you live.

No one is getting out of this life alive, Lol okay that was meant to be a joke but since we all are going to die one day so why bother to keep something that wasn’t yours to keep.

The next good news is that “on the seventh day, God rested” funny but true, please take out time to rest, we need to constantly remind ourselves that we are humans, we can do much but no so much

3. Learn to forgive yourself

Yes I said we are humans and you know the favourite part of being a human? We are imperfect, yes we make mistakes and I must confess that most times, these mistakes can be avoided and cost people precious deals, money and value of some sort.

Even science summarises by saying that there is room for error because they know fully well that they are humans.

✓statistical error
✓ probability
✓absolute error, Type 1 and 2 etc

You’ll always see someone better, someone prettier, someone more excellent, someone more passionate, know this and have peace that your uniqueness comes with awesomeness and weaknesses, you have to learn to embrace both.

4. Learn to stay around positive people.

There would be time you will need to draw energy from other persons because it might have been drained while working, the first law of thermodynamics (law of conservation of energy) which states that energy can neither be created nor destroyed but can be transferred and converted from one form to another.

Stay around people who would make your team rock and your dream work, friends that will encourage your passion, goals and desires to give to the world, good friends are like rock bottom, when there is no way to go, you hit rock bottom, the only place left to go is up.

5) Learn to be grateful

Sometimes we focus more on our problems, we would then forget to be thankful and grateful, blessings can be seen in the little things you do like ability to wake up, having a genotype of AA( allowing you to get married to any genotype)

A wise man once said “the fact that you’re complaining is another reason to thank him”

We all want that big break but before that big break comes, let’s learn to celebrate the little wins.

You don’t won a Job, be grateful for being alive, a living Dog is better than a dead Lion.

6) Learn to ask for help

No man can do it all alone, no man is self made, every man drank from a well made by some man (pun intended)

Some people look like Giants because they stood on the shoulders of giants.

Some people are competent for that task that is overwhelming to you, some are more qualified to carry out that task effectively and efficiently, please delegate and save yourself the stress.

Always remember that people are willing to help you but can’t because they aren’t aware that you need their help and that awareness is created by your request.
