A testimonial is a statement from a past customer that describes how a product or service helped them. people find it easy to believe a testimonial of a previous customer than actually believe the seller or the owner of the good, products or services. Which seems weird because the only one who knows their goods better than anyone are the manufacturers.

This is also the reason why most people read reviews of products before buying them, it makes them feel safe that their money is being spent on the right product.

But sometimes getting a testimonial from a customer can be hard for someone who isn’t good at communicating, most people feel like they are stressing a customer when they ask for reviews and testimonials, the truth is that if we don’t ask, customers won’t even give.

This is because, human beings are generally selfish and this isn’t a bad thing, once the focus isn’t about them, they don’t really care

Remember the scripture that says “Ask and you shall receive”

Sometimes you just need to ask with a compliment and a promise to please them better.

“Dear (Customer’s name) How was our service? Did you experience any obstacles, Did you enjoy our product/service, what things would you love for us to change so that we can serve you better?”

That way you are bringing the focus back to them, they won’t feel annoyed or embarrassed giving you a reply.

Secondly, you can ask using a survey, that you are planning to bring innovations so that they would tell you what they would want you to improve on, but then you have to bring the focus back on them.

I’ll give a sample,

“Dear Customer, when we gave you the product/offered you the service, how was the experience because we want to improve on…”

That way they would tell you what they loved and they hated, but then you can edit the part you don’t want to show to the public.

Thirdly, make it anonymous, most people don’t give testimonials because they don’t want people to see them, they are shy, they prefer to do it like Nicodemus, who came at night to endorse Jesus… There are better ways to do this though, make use of Google forms, survey forms and other platforms that is private.

Again this works both ways, when you are creating an event, there are people who love to be revealed, to be seen especially when they want to be associated with influential brands, they would prefer to speak to the camera and get a video of themselves displayed for all to see.

Lastly use an incentive, some people would readily give their testimonials when there is a gift involved, you could give a discount for all customers you give a video testimonials, or even a raffle draw for all customers who give you a testimonial, some Fast moving consumer companies could ask you to get some sort of evidence to show that you used their products, they could ask for a specific amount of wraps, bottle corks, symbol written in the container and other stuff like that.

Yes there is a prize to be won but the price is to get your testimonial, the fact that you bought a particular number of (product) means you loved it so much that you had to buy alot (you get the point now) but to the customer, they just want to win.

Hope you found value?
