Omobolanle Raheem was shot on Christmas day by a police officer who is with the Ajah police division.
Bolanle was a graduate of the Olabisi Onabanjo University, Ago Iwoye, Ogun State and studied at the Nigerian Law School in Enugu.
She is a member of the Lagos chapter of the Nigerian Bar Association and recently switched from practicing litigation to property law.
Raheem served as the CEO of Croston Homes and the co-founder of City Building, a real estate and property development firm. He is also an accomplished realtor, real estate consultant, business mentor, and developer.
Mr. Gbenga Raheem and the late Bolanle Raheem were married, and they were the parents of one kid as well as her unborn child.
After being shot by an officer named ASP Drambi Vandhi in a car near the Ajah area on Sunday evening, Mrs. Bolanle Raheem’s unfortunate and unjust death made the news on Monday morning. She was four months pregnant.
Her husband’s account, which was documented, claims that,
” December 25, my wife, nieces, nephews, and cousins, who had come for the holiday, all went to church. On our way back, my wife said since it was Christmas Day, we should take everyone out, so, we went to a supermarket at Abraham Adesanya, then to Domino’s Pizza.
After that, we headed towards Ajah to do a U-turn to come back to Abraham Adesanya. When we took the U-turn, we saw policemen stopping some vehicles. As we approached them, they said we should stop, and in the process, we heard a loud sound on my wife’s side window. All of a sudden, I saw blood gushing out of her chest.
“I immediately ran out; my sister-in-law, who was also with us, ran out and held the policeman; he cocked his gun at her too. Talking to him was pointless, so I went to see if anything could be done; I saw my wife gasping for breath, and by that time, my sister-in-law had brought the policeman into the car and pushed him into the front seat.
“We drove to a hospital but they said they couldn’t handle it; we eventually took her to Grandville Hospital, where she was confirmed dead. The policemen took her body and put it in the truck; they wanted me to follow them but I said I needed to go and settle my children.”
The mother of the deceased also confirmed that her daughter was four (4) months along with twins when she was brutally murdered on December 25, 2022.
Usman Baba, the inspector general of police, issued an order on Monday through CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi to swiftly prosecute the police officers responsible for this unlawful act.
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, also stated that an investigation would be conducted to stop similar unnecessary incidents.
Additionally, the NBA has shown that it will keep an eye on how things are handled and eventually do what is right for its own.
In order to guarantee that justice is done, representatives of the union met with the state commissioner and the DPO of the Ajiwe police station, according to Ikechukwu Uwana, chairman of the Nigerian Bar Association’s Lagos chapter.
Finally, both public and private figures have united in denouncing the murder of the expectant lawyer and calling for the dismissal of the DPO at the Ajiwe police station due to the high number of homicides that have been reported in the division.
Nigerians hold the DPO responsible for his inability to control his men in check.
One of the elements that led to the #Endsars protest in 2021 appears to have been the thoughtless killing of individuals without following the proper procedure.
How is this to be resolved?
Will Mrs. Bolanle’s passing lead to another protest?
Will the deceased’s case be resolved by the NBA?
