The Federal government has reopened the ‘Third Mainland Bridge’ in Lagos State after a month of closing the bridge.

Previously on the 19th of October 2023, the Federal government announced the closure of the Third Mainland Bridge for repair which commenced at midnight on Saturday 21st October to midnight on Sunday 22nd October 2023.

Mrs Olukoredo Kesha, the Federal Controller For Works in Lagos State said the closure of the bridge was to begin comprehensive rehabilitation on the bridge, starting with repairs of the critically failed sections alongside the Adeniji bound carriageway. Also, she urged motorists to operate via alternate routes as the bridge will not grant passage till the maintenance is done.

Eventually, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, the Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation in a statement on Thursday 21 December 2023, said the bridge is set to reopen by 6 pm on Thursday 21 2023 to Lagosians, which is approximately one month of closure.

According to the Commissioner, all parts of the bridge have been fully repaired and are currently accessible to the public for safer transportation.

He also added that the reopening demonstrates the government’s devotion to infrastructure upkeep and public safety.

Finally, he exercised his deep gratitude to Nigerians who were patient throughout the one-month closure of the bridge, expressing that the government understands the closure of the bridge must have caused inconvenience to the public.
