Akpabio Breaks Silence on Alleged Organ Harvesting Plot Involving US-Based Activist Natasha

Abuja, Nigeria – Senate President Godswill Akpabio has firmly denied allegations made by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, who accused him of plotting an assassination against her. Akpabio has labeled these claims as “baseless” and has petitioned the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, requesting a thorough investigation into the matter .

In a public address, Akpabio stated:

“The Office of the President of the Senate strongly condemns the recent baseless, false, and inflammatory accusation made by Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, in which she falsely alleged that the Senate President was involved in a plot to assassinate her” .

Akpabio emphasized that such allegations are not only unfounded but also pose a threat to public peace and the integrity of democratic institutions.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, had earlier alleged that Akpabio conspired with former Kogi State Governor Yahaya Bello and current Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to orchestrate her assassination in Kogi State. She claimed that the plan was to eliminate her and frame her constituents for the crime .

In response, Akpabio has called for Akpoti-Uduaghan’s prosecution for criminal defamation, incitement, and making false accusations intended to disrupt public order .

The situation escalated when a U.S.-based activist, Dr. Sandra Duru, also known as Professor Mgbeke, accused Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan of attempting to bribe her with ₦200 million to fabricate allegations against Akpabio, including claims of organ harvesting and sexual harassment. Dr. Duru released alleged audio recordings to support her claims .

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan has dismissed these counter-accusations, asserting that they are attempts to divert attention from the serious allegations she has raised. She has urged the Inspector General of Police to dismiss Akpabio’s petition, labeling it as a distraction from the core issues at hand .

The controversy has attracted international attention, with Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan presenting her case to the United Nations and the Inter-Parliamentary Union. She described her suspension from the Senate as an assault on democracy and a reflection of the challenges faced by women in Nigerian politics. She stated:

“This is a clear case of political victimisation and punishment for speaking out against sexual harassment, corruption, and gender-based violence” .

The Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order restraining both parties from granting further media interviews while the case is pending. This move aims to prevent further escalation of tensions and maintain public order .

Public opinion remains divided. Supporters of Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan view her as a whistleblower standing against political oppression, while others see the allegations as politically motivated attacks against the Senate President.

As investigations proceed, the Nigerian public and international observers await the outcomes, hoping for a resolution that upholds justice and the integrity of democratic institutions. The case underscores the importance of transparency, accountability, and the protection of individuals who speak out against perceived injustices
