5 powerful ways that you can make your CV standout
Every CV battles for the attention of the hiring manager, so your CV battles for attention with words because your CV is just a blank paper without carefully crafted words.
Not only is your CV battling for the attention of your hiring manager, it is fighting to be outstanding among other CVs that were submitted as well.
So to become attractive, your CV must have a level of optimisation and I’ll love to show you 5 different ways you can optimise your CV
1. Leverage on your experiences and volunteers, most of us have volunteered in alot of online and offline Programs but haven’t really seen the need to put them while applying for a role that has to do with administration, community development or even management.
We are unconsciously hoarding our advantage over others, and yes it isn’t about just putting the experience of your volunteers on your CV but carefully detailing your impact in a way that is relevant to the role you desire.
2. Sprinkle as many relevant skills as possible.
Many times you say we have no hard skill but we neglect to sharpen our soft skills like effective communication, leadership, team playing, networking, time management, data analysis and organisation.
If you’re a great journal, you can put that as one of your skills, please note that the skill you put has to be related to the job you’re applying for. You can’t put your swimming skill for a content creation role.
Even skills like research is needed in almost every company, most firms do not have a research and development department, you can offer your great researching skill for the company or even data management for customers.
3. Include achievement and results
Let the company know what the skill you have did for your former company and how you applied it.
When writing about how much of a good wordsmith that I am, I always talk about winning the award of the best debate speaker in my Alma mater even though my team lost the award. Next time let the company you’re applying for know your past results and achievements.
4. Certification
We have so many certificates that we won but sometimes we don’t Remember, even Udemy and Coursera courses too, it could even be a certificate of participation, excellence and recognition but it is still something that is worthy of being recommended.
Sometimes you can put certificates of top professional bodies even if you are yet to write the exam (and put beside it, still in progress or in view) this shows the company your commitment to become better and improve yourself.
5. Your skills should appear before your certificate, the things you can do for the company should come before the things that you have done.
Everybody is selfish in some way and it isn’t a bad thing, but as a job seeker you can take advantage of this and make the company see what you can do for them so that their interest in you is secured more than other candidates and applicants who are selling more of their achievements
